Dragon appears to have killed himself
« on: November 14, 2007, 02:24:00 am »

A dragon recently entered the area around my fortress. Upon his arrival I had all my non-soldier dwarfs to no longer travels outdoors. After he burnt a stragler down I set all dwarfs to stay indoors. Eventually the dragon made its way to the front entrance of my fortress, toasted my trade depot with his flame breath, and proceeded to kill a lone soldier who didn't make it inside. It appears while he was doing this he was standing in the burning wreckage of the trade depot. After about a minute or two he perished in the flames.

At one point I checked the health of the dragon 'cause I noticed he was wounded after he killed the soldier. All his parts were yellow and he was unconscious.

I'm assuming dragons are meant to be fire-proof. The dragons name was Mingkil Langgudfullut if that's any help. I also have a save backed up shortly after he died (altough I'm guessing it won't be much use since he's already dead)

It looks like this bug remains in the newest version - today, I had a dragon   killed in his own fire (or smoke - I couldn't know if he died burning or by suffocation). After he died, though, his body burned to ashes.
Now we know why megabeasts can't survive past year 300. :)

If there was any alcohol inside your trade depot, the molten alcohol would've exploded, collapsed the building and both crushed and incinerated the dragon.

I had the same thing happen to me when a dragon wandered into my trade depot.  All I ever found was the skull which means it got pretty damn hot in there.

There wasn't a stockpile outside. He didn't even got near my fortress. He killed some unlucky migrants who showed up at the same time he did, and I think he died in the smoke generated by one of them.

Do booze-bombs cause structural damage? I thought they only flooded the air with boiling alcohol, which is bad for people animals but not for buildingsl

I'm not actually sure.  I only have the anecdotal evidence of, Dragon goes inside booze filled depot and flames it up, molten beer explodes and flies everywhere and everything in and within a 5 tile radius of the depot incinerated.  Either it was the dragons breath, the beer exploding, or maybe the dragon swiped at the building, but it would be pretty stupid to collapse a building while you are inside it, a la shredder in TMNT2.  =)

Had a similar thing happen in my first megabeast battle,  Not my military at the time was 1 sleeping hammerdwarf + fort/royal guards

Dragon rolled up barbequed the human traders and my trade depot and breathed a nice healthly firebreath at my Obsidion Block Wall, watched the flames curl around the wall and engulf the "mighty" Smogo turning him first into a dead dragon then into crispy dragon bacon and finally Bones/skull

Self-Barbeque...and i thought the magma pits were bad...

Its simple, and has been brought up before, Dragons are immune to fire, not heat. or specifically immune to [FIRE] damage, whilst still being affected by [HEAT] damage. Burning objects cause [HEAT] damage, and so the dragon roasts.

Add this into your dragon raws for a quick fix:
Code: [Select]
[HEATDAM_POINT:13000]
[IGNITE_POINT:15000]
[BOILING_POINT:17000]
[BONE_BOILING_POINT:17000]
[BONE_HEATDAM_POINT:13000]
[BONE_IGNITE_POINT:15000]
[BONE_MELTING_POINT:16000]
[LEATHER_BOILING_POINT:17000]
[LEATHER_HEATDAM_POINT:13000]
[LEATHER_IGNITE_POINT:15000]
[LEATHER_MELTING_POINT:16000]
[MELTING_POINT:16000]

Should make them impervious to heat damage.

...the beer exploding...
Heh, never really thought about it before, but dwarven beer must have a sick alcohol strength.

Dwarven booze actually has an alchohol content of about 500% of what we thought was possible to fit in a given space. They super-condense large amounts of booze, making the same volume but at a 5 times, or even higher concentration. They also hack reality, but we knew that already... I mean seriously... Pig-Tail Cloth Shortwords...

Well, technically, you could have a cloth sword, it just wouldn't be very useful.
