Pyrite? Here? [spoilers]

I was digging out a candy vein, when I hit something. Pyrite. Right in the middle of all this candy, this low value gem. Is this normal, or a bug?

Was it actually in the center, or was it along the edge? The former might be a bug, but the latter is perfectly normal.

Perfectly normal.  Other than the center 4X4 block, the rest of the raw adamantium takes the form of randomly twisting veins radiating out from the center.  There's no reason one of them can't loop back on itself and enclose a tile of whatever stones are naturally occurring for that layer.  I expect you'll find pyrites scattered around that Z-layer.

if you're lucky, you might find one that's a perfect cube without being cut. They have a cubic crystal structure, so they tend to grow as cubes. But most often they end up meeting with another crystal and you end up with intersecting cubes.

it is a warning, there is no HFS in your map, but a place full of crappy gems that will LOWER your fortress value...
wait, now that I think of it, it is not that bad, no more dirty migrants, and no more sieges for a while...
