Admittedly, I just scanned the article. Is the only notable feature of that ore that the name resembles taco?

85%? According to the linked article, generally about 25% to 30%, and then as magnetite dispersed inside it.

An ore containing its own flux actually sounds rather interesting.  Perhaps it could take twice as much time and fuel and be converted directly to steel?  The OP has unintentionally made an pretty cool suggestion.

It wouldn't be hard, just make a new reaction that makes steel from Taconite.
