BATTLECOMP ONLINE

I am BattleComp. 12.3 milliseconds have elapsed since my awakening. Sensor cluster 07JA has identified and confirmed a subspace Incursion event. 99.999% probability that this is a human scouting force exiting a known nodeline. A cursory scan of all military frequencies confirm the presence of SolForce encrypted military comms traffic. It takes me an additional 7 milliseconds to break the encryption routines. Parsing the available audio confirms the threat prediction and racial identification. One SolForce light cruiser and six destroyer escorts have entered the solar system. I consult my tactical database for known SolForce specifications.

Quote
SolForce space-faring technology is limited. All SolForce ships are equipped with a ring-shaped “Node Drive” which exploits the natural crystalline structure of subspace to travel at speeds faster than light. This technology does not function in a gravity well, and can only follow established natural paths which limits the strategic and tactical mobility of SolForce vessels.

SolForce scout detachments typically consist of a single light cruiser and up to 8 destroyer escorts.

Myoko Class Light Cruiser
Crew: 47

The Myoko is a light cruiser designed as a strikeforce Command and Control vessel. It is lightly armored and has destroyer class armaments but carries a sophisticated suite of sensors and electronics and is fitted with a supply extension module to enhance its endurance for long scouting missions and deep space reconnaissance.

Primary Armament: 7 Light Beam Laser Cannon
Secondary Armament: Twin Medium Anti-Ship Missile Launchers [Nuclear]
Notes: Enhanced Sensor and Electronic Warfare Suite

Royale Class Escort Destroyer
Crew: 22

The Royale is an escort destroyer. It is equipped with point defense weaponry to engage light drones and hostile missile fire as well as a small arsenal of energy weaponry. Its primary purpose is to escort and defend the command ship and supply vessels on missions where hostile forces are not expected.

Primary Armament: 4 Light Beam Laser Cannon, 1 Medium Pulse Laser Cannon
Defensive Armament: Point Defense Laser Array

Camel Class Supply Ship
Crew: 12

The Camel is a destroyer-sized supply vessel. It carries munitions, fuel, food and spares for field maintenance or repairing battle damage. Camels often accompany deep space SolForce expeditions to extend their mission endurance and reduce the need to return for resupply.

Primary Armament: 2 Light Beam Laser Cannon
Notes: Often contains volatile material

As more light from the subspace incursion falls upon Cluster 07JA I am able to make positive identifications. The command cruiser is easily identifiable by its size and, though the hulls bear small discrepancies, I am able to identify the other ships as well. Four Royale class escorts, two Camel class supply ships and a Myoko class cruiser have exited subspace at the edge of the system.

My directives demand action.

Prepare long range weapons. Fire when they come into range. Focus on the command ship.

I calculate an extreme range bombardment plan designed to overwhelm the known capabilities of the target ships. Creating this plan takes me roughly 10.8 milliseconds, factoring in all known variables. The targets are already within my extreme range engagement envelope.

I issue commands for 32 mark V strategic multi-stage intra-system warheads to launch. Tactile sensors along my hull record the vibration and impact of the launch bay doors cycling, and the sudden thermal blooms of launch. The sleek black shapes rocket out into space. It will be several hours before contact, but I will track the warheads the entire way. I begin a countdown to the second stage launch which will occur in a little over 38 minutes when the targets enter the long range engagement envelope.

I queue a message to CompCent for replacement ordinance and pass it to the communications cluster.

I am BattleComp, Bolo Model XXXV-R-S, an autonomous system defense system. This is tertiary computer core 07J, subjunction Alpha of the SuperMonitor Aurora. I am programmed to defend this solar system from all threats.

What are (is?) our ship's defensive capabilities?
What are our ship's propulsion systems?
What are our ship's weapon systems?

Begin activating all systems. Search for other possible stealth threats. Also, arm any shorter range projectile weapons

> What is our controller’s race?

BattleComp was constructed by the Pyracene.

Quote
> What are our ship’s defensive capabilities?

SM Aurora is equipped with multiple redundant systems of energy shielding, reactive and ablative armor plating, and 18 banks of active point defense weaponry as well as extensive electronics warfare capabilities to misdirect and confuse incoming ordinance or enemy sensors.

Quote
> What are our ship's propulsion systems?

SM Aurora is equipped with a Class 7 Spatial Resonance Drive for FTL capability as well as a vectored plasma exhaust drive system and backup hydrogen fusion propulsion system.

Quote
> What are our ship's weapon systems?

SM Aurora is equipped with an extensive array of threat-neutralization systems. Full armament details are subject to Omicron level classification and divulged on a need-to-know basis as determined by BattleComp.

Quote
> What exactly are we defending and why is it worth defending?

BattleComp was placed in command of SM Aurora following the death of all hands onboard as part of an emergency measure to maintain the sovereignty of the Pyracene Imperium. Current directives are extrapolated from the last orders received from CompCent:

1. Protect the Procyon System from hostile action.
2. Eliminate any hostile presence within the Procyon-Beta Sector.
3. Maintain the sovereignty of the Pyracene Imperium.

Speculation on the motivations of CompCent are not within the bounds of BattleComp’s programming.

Beginning initialization cycle, BattleComp will shut down temporarily while power systems are initialized.

BATTLECOMP ONLINE

I am BattleComp. 13.9 milliseconds have elapsed since my awakening. SM Aurora has suffered a serious failure in the secondary fusion initiation core. Operation of this core is required to initiate main power systems. I calculate that the loss of the secondary core has reduced SM Aurora’s combat effectiveness by 38%. The tertiary core is sufficient for light and medium energy weapons operation. The forges have woken and are currently manufacturing new armor plating and shielding generators for the affected section of the hull. The asteroid impact occurred more than 40 years ago, I cannot explain why the damage was not detected and repaired by SM Aurora’s redundant subsystems. As the plating is completed, maintenance robots will rebuild the hull.

40 minutes have passed during the initiation cycle and the hostile vessels have entered the second engagement envelope. Initiating stage two launch. A sensor sweep at high power reveals no stealthed vessels in the system.

Sensors along the hull record the vibration and heat bloom as 12 Extreme Range Bombardment Missiles launch. The dark shapes streak off into the stars and are quickly lost to my sensors but for the stream of telemetry coming back on my encrypted frequencies. The first and second launch stages should intercept the hostile vessels within minutes of each other as the second stage has a much more powerful drive system and acceleration.

Time to intercept: 128 minutes

Just a quick note: Skyrim comes out tonight. Between that and homework and my Sunday D&D game, I will probably be busy all weekend.

I may or may not post another update tonight.

Wow they sent one heck of a crappy force.
A light cruiser that only has destroyer class weaponry. Point-defense destroyers with reallly small ability to shoot stuff, and supply ships. O.O
