So I was letting my laptop update windows 7 and I accidentally unplugged it and it died:( You know when it say don't turn it off or reset it, it means that. Now every time I try to turn it on it says fatal error C0000034. What do I do??!? I need to play dwarf fortress again. I'm losing my inner dwarf, I even thought about shaving!

This happened to me once, I accidentally powered off during an update and Vista was unable to boot. I had to wipe everything and start over.

Alternatively you could partition the hard drive, install an OS (Vista, XP, anything that's not the corrupt one) and delete the old one- though that would take a while.

Because I didn't have restore discs, I had to reformat and reinstall the OS from 'Factory Settings'... So m'lud, I think you're going to have to reformat.

How do I reformat. I'm not very good with this stuff yet.

First thing would be to see what you still have access to.


-First, when does the error occur? Immediately at startup, or when loading windows?

-Do you have any CD with windows on it?
-If not, do you have access to a computer with a CD burner?
-If you also don't have that, can you get into your laptop's BIOS? Does your laptop display a screen that say " press this and that button to open BIOS menu" or something similar, or does it immediately jump to the error? If so, try fiddling around with the boot order settings to see if you can get it to attempt booting from an USB before it boots from the hard drive (Note that it may actually put the boot from USB option under the hard drive list, my desktop does that too, but it'll will have USB in it's name somewhere)

Would a disk with windows 7 work?? I should be able to get that.

Most likely yes, but I would definitely try to see if you can salvage anything first.

It should be possible to reinstall/repair Windows without reformatting the whole thing.
