(A couple things. What research projects can I do? And what armament/fighters/missiles does the captured pirate battleship have? I'd like to add it to my first post to keep track of all the loot that the Khallori accumulate.)

Training: By those 16 Turns, you will get a full complement. The 16 is for refitting, training crew, etc.
In two, the Battleship will be full of Marines

Right, begin researching the long range laser rifles. During those 16 turns, make for Arrakis to see what's there and to test out the new Mako.

(Edit: Maybe I should clarify what I meant. While the damaged battleship is repairing, and the crew recruiting is under way, the intact battleship, the monitor, and the light cruiser head to Arrakis.)

Arrakis: there is a starbase here, and they give you a Vehicle Mounted Seismic Detector.

You land at the city of Arrakeen with the Monitor, and the Alliance M-35 Mako pings, saying "remember, water discipline is paramount to survival. Do not exit the vehicle unless it is necessary due to sandworms"

You take the Mako out, with an Assault Shuttle on station. The roaring fun is interrupted by an orange mass: the spice, Melange. 700 credits worth.

Beep beep. Sandworm detected. However, the mako is lifted to safety. A fun sojourn.
Now what?

Send some fighters down to take out the sandworm, and harvest the spice after it's dead. An extra 700 credit's wouldn't hurt. And check to see if sandworm meat is good for eating.

Contact the human starbase in the area and inquire about getting some BBQ sauce for future reference. But for now head for Lushos. See if the contested space led to any battles that we could pick through.
