Being made of snow makes a huge difference in who you'd want to send after it...snow is going to be pretty easy to shatter/chop apart, so any dwarf you send after it would likely send things flying off in an arc pretty regularly.

While snow being pretty fragile would be good news for melee dwarves, I think it'd be bad news for the dogs...

I'm not that familiar with how war dogs fight, but I think they aren't as likely to tear off body parts of something as large as a forgotten beast, and the lack of blood means they can't beat the FB using the 'death of a thousand cuts' method by causing the FB to lose enough blood to die of blood loss.

Should have used the miners. You would have had 37 dogs (probably soon to be 80 at their breeding rate) and some smug looking miners. And who doesn't think miners should be a little smug? Bugger all happens that's dwarfy without them.

"It's made of snow? Snow? Really? SNOW? FFS, my copper pick has not only carved out this entire bloody fortress, it'll go straight through a vein of admantium.... Snow? Shit. And they gave the kill to a bloody hunter....."

Any unarmored enemy can be taken down by 3 melee fighters working in tandem. (Try pitting an elephant against 3 rabbits in the testing arena to see what I mean.)

The flying thing might give it a chance, but unless it can attack from range, your dogs will win eventually.

Try pitting an elephant against 3 rabbits in the testing arena to see what I mean.

In 16 simultaneous trials, 5 elephants won with only minor injuries, while 11 groups of rabbits caused the elephant to pass out, kept biting the elephant, "denting the skin and bruising the fat", and repeatedly "shak[ing] the elephant around by the head!".

Point taken: you have roughly a 69% chance of victory over an elephant when attacking with three rabbits, assuming you have a way to finish the elephant off after it's passed out (if you don't, you have a 69% chance of a stalemate).

Of course, that wouldn't work if the elephant didn't have pain receptors, which I'm not sure strange material FBs do...but fragile material ones are definitely easy for multiple melee dwarves to take care of.

So you are trading away the irreplenishable, extremely useful resource, which, incidentally, provides means to military superiority. If you used it properly, you would not have to rely on dogs to beat a FB.

I must go visit my legendary dining room before I slip to madness from the massive unhappy thought this gave me...

Your total disregard for the military potential for adamantine and using it for something where any normal human can see that single rock crafts and etc will give you the same result is so insane. :'(

WELCOME TO DWARFHOOD.

I'd always defined dwarfy as they do in the dictionary.

dwarfy (dwôrf-ē) (adj.,v):
1. Something pointless and time-consuming but awesome and possibly catastrophic
2. The creation and/or execution idea that is both groundbreaking and incredibly controversial
3. An excessive use of magma (blah, impossible)
4. A kill-on-sight policy for allies
5. The tendency to walk around while on fire and not notice
6. Any Rube Goldberg machine that ends in the total obliteration of an army and/or species
