[Gloat] My new Super PC
« on: November 07, 2011, 09:01:16 am »

Spoiler: Cue Violin (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Specs (click to show/hide)

I've been doing a little testing, and I'm able to run any game on Full-specs, 1280x Resolution, as my terrible TV allows at maximum.

- Total War: Empire, full ("Ultra high") specs, large-scale battles.
- Oblivion, "ReAnimate" EVERYTHING.
- Oblivion, Custom Spell to explode EVERYTHING within 100 meters.
- Mount & Blade, full specs, 600+ Soldier Battle (As 100 on-field setting at maximum allows).
And all works well. Not the slightest bump.

I've basically spent £950 on Skyrim for the PC.

And of course, DF On Crack.

I just bought myself a brand new computer, too.

And the motherboard didn't work :(.

It's okay, though, because I'll be able to get it replaced.

I think you probably overspent on the CPU. Other than that, congrats!

Nice. I've got a laptop on order myself and I'm just waiting for it to be built. Not quite as good as your computer (similar processor speed if I'm turbo boosting, 8 gb of ram, radeon 6770M graphics card) but considering how much more expensive laptops normally are I got it for a steal at $1033. Have fun with your new computer, I know I will with mine once I get it.

Yeah i'd be saving money to get a new GPU. That being said everything else is ready for it, so its a smart build. Just not quite complete yet ;)

Laptops are like drugs.

You shouldn't do it, and you shouldn't think about it.
When you start to think about it, you want to try it.
Once you've tried it, you regret it.

They overheat like a bitch with that tiny fan. Once it shuts down once from overheating, it's a chain reaction. Don't do it.

Tis for college and I really needed the upgrade. I'm thinking of looking into one of those cooling pads though I think we've got some ceramic ones that work similarly.

If you get a good one heating isn't a problem. Mine has one side mounted vent that cools it like dare I say it. Like it wasn't no thing.

I have a laptop for college, and I play Shadow of Chernobyl on it with it sitting on my lap. It gets hot, but it's never overheated on me.

I'm running an i5 2500k processor, and I've been told I can clock it to around 4.0 Ghz without any problems, using the stock fan. I'd be very surprised if your i7 can't do something similar, though maybe not quite so drastic given it seems to have double the cores.
