Epic of Aluonra
Chapter One: The Birth and Death of the Windy World.
To the sound of battle
Did dance the undead rabble
Who sought the flesh of mortals
Broken hearts, shattered minds, of men and mer.
From ages past did they come,
The evil darkness before there were worlds.
Heaven erupted with light and songs of delight
As the first gods gave birth to the worlds
Aluonra did rise,
A land bathed in the divine winds.
Below, beasts emerged
Touched by the gods’ own souls.
Dwarves, Elves, and Men,
Goblins, Kobolds, Gremlins,
Civilization leapt to and unfurled
The Golden Age struck this world.
But behold, within three score millennia
The Windy World devolved into chaos
As gods did battle upon the heavenly winds
Their beasts of war savage, now dragons
And from this Age of Death did come
The Foul One, cruelty unfathomable,
Touch mortal souls, it did,
And threatened all the world
For a millennia war did wage
Goblins joining it’s rage,
Kobolds broken of mind and culture,
While Gremlins thought dead in the dank caves below.
The day it was done
Winter solstice, before sun
The world declared dead, date set in stone
Granite first, year Zero.
Darkness driven back
Sealed within the world below
The Gods did swear, for their hubris and greed,
The mortal realm free of their breed.
Chapter Two: Rebirth and Fall from Grace.
From the ashes, of a winter of death
Did spring forth the survivors,
Ruins forgotten, borders as dust
In the divine wind that still blew strong.
The Age of Myth it was called;
Great Beasts of the Gods’ armies stood fast,
To harass the soul-touched
As they lay foundations for a Second Golden Age.
Soon, a Dwarf proclaimed himself King.
Flag of benevolence, the Sword of Boots.
For 77 years did he reign,
Broken naught by undue death.
Soon, the goddess of death, Ura,
Did commit atrocities unspeakable.
In the wilds around Nationsracks
Yetis she possessed to destroy.
Not but a century passed, and war did wage;
The dwarves must battle the corrupted.
Goblins and their adopted humans,
General Nil Ringedclutches did assault.
Three centuries passed in peace,
But Evil slowly crept through the soil
Soon, a human took the throne.
Her reign fell short, her heir, her daughter.
Child taken early by the malignant
No creature could suspect
The horrors that lay dormant
In this small child’s innocent mind.
Led Shakeoars did take the throne.
Heart black with the Evil Darkness,
The Foul One and Ura consumed her soul
For thirty years her morals eroded.
Her hatred of the dwarves
Fueled by a burning passion.
Vengeance for the Foul One against
Dwarves who fought so bravely
The Oar of Ankles did found,
Battlefailed.
By Queen Led’s command
Dwarves did settle in their graves.
Chapter Three: The Battle for Battlefailed.
On the morn of Granite first
From a hangover most dwarvenly
Did rise those fateful starting seven
What a party last night!
As they stood groggily, they did peer
‘pon the shoreline on which they chose to slumber
Upon their wagon one drunkard had chiseled
“BaTtleFAiLeD,” and thus stuck the name.
As soon as work began, beasts approached
Wild elk reduced to shambling skeletons.
The first did drown, first dwarf down,
Oglokoog, sank to a watery grave
Feel the hoofbeats
As if frightened hearts sing
Urist the Blue’s suffering
A violin played by the spirit of Heyguys
A mere two survived
They cowered inside
While Skelks’ bloody hooves
Stamped off through the swamps.
Migrants on the horizon
Year of misery, death abounds!
Andreus, Father of Heroes
Begins his work unholy.
By year the third
Terrible beasts roam in herds
Fire-breathing insect
Struck down by a human, hero ever-onward
The hovel in the sand
Finally, it expands
A glorious future it beholds
A cat braves the muskox horde!
Monkeys ruin cunning plan,
Titan ruins overseer’s new room,
Destroys entire fortress
Militia beaten by skoxen
Spring arrives, spirits rest
Year 505 begins in blood
And ends in broken hearts
Seth Creiyd, jealous as Lur Thiefwitch
The sixth year rushes by,
A stampede of stout labor.
Death ever-present,
The fortress sinks deep.
The seventh was quite deadly
Blood of dwarves
Blood of beasts
Blood of many goblins
The next began in revelry
After those military successes
Overseer transcendent, insanity
Believed he was overseeing two forts
Green corpses piled high
“If only we could fly!”
Goblins fall endlessly
To dwarven steel and fury!
“Beyond the velvet lies,
There lies a truth of steel,
the vision never dies,
life's a never ending wheel…”
And the wheels of time did turn
Spring of the ninth year
Revolution through philosophy!
Philosophers don’t make good generals…
The Tenth was managed by the first
Returned from a kinky trip to Hell
Disliked managing miners correctly
Resulted in floating miners caught in limbo.
Gladiatorial arena became legendary.
Flying miners great attraction
Dying goblins and skelks aplenty
Hopeless distractions
Andreus, Father of Heroes
Slain by flying shit monster
Didn’t see that coming,
Immortal Philosopher-general?
Shem Shipdusts,
Shit Slayer
Battlefailed commends you
Even though everyone suffocated.
Foolish Robocorn
Jinxed entire fortress
Said stories of destructive
Forgotten beasts are lies.
Year began,
Glorious Golden Age
Ended in damnation
Massive tantrum spiral
Within Limbo, Lur Thiefwitch revealed
His gravest mistake;
Returning Andreus to life
Thusly reality would collapse.
Great Berserking
Death Lurking
Families split asunder
Those alive, those less than six feet under.
Artifact rot fortress,
Battlefailed
The believed that death
Would save them from agony
Goblins still arrived in waves
Yet the evils of the world saw
More torment spawned from within
And sought to infiltrate dwarves’ very lives
