I've decided to step up my training since honestly, my free time can be spent better. I'm going to be taking my normal working out and multiplying it by about 2-3 times.

At the moment, I do a total of 40 pushups/situps each day to maintain my upper body with little effort. But I've found that no matter what I do my form and figure in pushups are not near my ability in high school, which leads me to believe im going soft in my actual core (the obliques and back muscles, to be exact). I also compound this with a set of benching at 220, ten times, sometimes 15 if I'm not too tired by ten reps, along with bar curling and stiff-legged dead lifts. I don't do squatting since it hurts my back and I'm not a kid anymore, I'd rather not risk slipping a disk or such just to make my legs feel better.

My new schedule will look something like this:
60 situps to wake up on, with 20 pushups afterward

Then I do my main workout during the day;
2 sets of bench, which, while a pain in the ass to switch weight plates out solo with a non-screw clamp, is much more effective than one set-- Starting at 155 and doing it 20+ times, then going back to 220 and going to the point where I cannot do anymore (do not fret, I can still lift this easily if I get caught out of energy)
After benching I do my normal curling and deadlifting, but now I'm putting an extra 35 on my curl bar. I've used 120 for a while just because that bar is terribly hard to find weights for.

Then before bed I do another 60 situps and pushups.

Today I actually did my main workout twice, and only felt it in my core. I almost feel like a kid again with how this is affecting my energy levels. Being laid off can make a man a bit.. Lazy, hah. I invite anyone with a story like mine [and a proper weight set/training to do the working out without risk of injury!] to go out and put 110% in. It's absolutely worth it.

I'll post an update somewhere along the way, but I can honestly say I already feel better than I did before.


I really wish I had a Fly machine, though. Those things can work absolute magic on your back, especially your Lat muscles. I remember in high school my back had more muscle than my legs!

Bought a proper set of equipment after christmas and have been loving it.

Wake up, 4* 15pushups 25 situps
6km walk/jog

Weights 4 days a week. 2 days chest arms and legs, 2 days back and shoulders
4km walk

Chest days i do
4 sets incline bench press
4 sets bench press
4 sets dumbell decline bench press
4 sets bicep 'hammer curls'
4 behind head tricep dip thingos
4 sets barbell curls
4 sets tricep 'skullcrushers'
squats

back days
4 sets deadlifts
4 sets upright rows
4 sets dumbell shoulder press
4 sets soulder raise
4 sets lat raise
4 sets of a back exercise which i can't remember the name of, with dumbells.

Seems like a lot, and i probably love my 4 sets too much, but you have to remember that i literally have nothing else physical to do all day while i'm on uni holidays, so i'm hitting it hard while i can. Results have felt pretty good so far too. I might start doing squats 4 days a week instead of 2 days a week though, my focus is really on my legs since i'm carrying a lot of extra bodyfat on them, whereas by upper body is comparitivly lean mainly due to working out at a gym for the previous 2 years.
Absolutly love having everything at home though. No messing about getting read to go to the gym, no going to it, no worrying about parking my car there and so on. In the three weeks i've been using it i've not missed a workout. Once I get to doing it pushing myself is never a problem for me, luckily.
The best thing is that my equipment cost less than a years membership.

I'm back in the gym. Had surgery about a month ago and could barely stand up, but now I'm all fine and dandy and I'm hitting the weights again.

Power cleaned 50kgx5x3 today, and it felt like my form was better than it's ever been. Boo-yeah!

Oh hey, this thread! Winter's over, how's training coming?

Today I bought creatine and protein powder for supplements, and I'm going to go nuts over the summer holiday. I've been stalling on my lifts, but I figure that's more due to lack of dedication and eating rather than me having to switch from Starting-Strength to something more advanced (Texas Method). Hopefully with me just stuffing my mouth with all sorts of stuff I should be having lotz gainz the next 3 months.

Ended up running only about 500 miles, with roughly 100 miles of that being hurdling practice. I decided that I'd had enough of distance running for four years, so decided to run the 110m high and 300m intermediate hurdles instead. I ended up being in the top 10 in the region in both, and ended up being voted 'most improved' this year in track. When I started out, the hurdles coach thought I would kill myself going over the high hurdles, as I was only barely clearing them. I tripped, fell, slid, and lost cups of blood throughout the season, but through my ridiculous distance running pain tolerance I kept going. I went from a 0:54:20 in the 300m down to 0:42:41, just missing going to State. It was a good time, though.

Welp i got a punching bag, time to practice hand to hand again and burn off my upper body fat as weight lifting doesnt help me.

I've kept up pretty much with the schedule i posted above, much more so than i've ever done for any schedule in my life, apart from the jogging bit. ended up just walking a couple of km each way to uni and back every day of the week instead. I'm glad I did, i'm feeling great, never been stronger in my life. Uni finishes at the end of this week, so i'm hoping to get back into some jogging too.

edit: oh and i put the majority of my success in keeping up with it down to having all the stuff at home where its handy.

Just start doing it. Anything else comes after. Don't fret about running that and that much, or doing so and so many push-ups. Just do at least a little and do it regularly. Everything else follows.

First you get a basic farm and still going, then you go about optimizing the fort.

I'm taking Jogging and Weight Lifting in college through the Summer. Grades are a great motivator for getting in shape!

I've never felt comfortable with the idea of going to a gym, though. Exercising doesn't bug me, sweaty dudes all around don't bug me. It's the whole "exercising with sweaty dudes all around me" bit that makes me hesitant. Which is a shame, 'cause there's a gym down the street that'll give me three free months just for signing up...

Maybe these classes will cure my gym-a-phobia. Maybe.
