Jamestown: Legend of the Lost Colony is a bullet-hell game set in the British colonies on Mars in the 1800s. $10 on Steam, IIRC.

That sounds all 'space and western' and not much 'steam punk', and yes, there is a difference.

Well, to be fair. Steampunk is quite a broad genre. The most common - but not only - view is the Victorian Alternate history one with a focus on Steam(for the steam) and Brassy Gadgets (for the punk).

That said, Jamestown has quite 'a' steampunk vibe around it. Between redcoats, flying ships, Though it's more a simple -albeit it quite good- bullet hell with a fantasteampunk skin.

Broad and ill defined.

Well it normally involved brass and polished mahogany. We can go from there.

Occurring around the renaissance, and with the laws of physics changed to make steam based engines more powerful.

Maybe it's parasitic. It never loses its flavor because you eventually die from having your nutrients stolen by it.

Taking place between roughly 1800 and up to WWI, at the very most including the war. Distinguished by far more advanced tech than contemporary real life, yet still often -but not necessarily - driven by steam. Might also include magic elements as well, mostly subtle or "low fantasy" however, even though the extraordinary tech makes it hard to call the average setting "low".

Also locomotives and top hats and monocles.

Probably the dumbest argument I've ever seen committed to type.

To contribute: Arcanum is excellent if you don't mind old graphics and disable real time battles.  It really stands with Fallout 1 or Planescape as a damn fine RPG with a smart narrative and deeper than typical roleplaying elements.

Although magic is way op compared to Tech, by the time you've gotten the basic tech weaponry you could be exploding things in one shot with magic.

...I really want to say Sakura Wars, but those are all Japanese, and mostly-console.  Five is the only translated one, but it's for PS2/Wii, and it's... really not as steampunky, in my opinion.

I have Rise of Legends, but never did get very far in it, as my computer is/was terrible, and ran it terribly.  The intro is awesome, though.  Arcanum is quite nice, too, really atmospheric.

Oh yeah.  Don't play a magician in Arcanum if you want to have fun.  Its gamebreakingy powerful iirc.

It's not so much that, it's just that technology is absolutely shit in comparison.
