Unless they make the Ecos assholes as well i'm fairly certain this will be another game tailored to "enlighten" people about global warming and why they should give out their money to "fight" it and reduce Co2 emissions.

Well, the very first mission sees an asshole corporate executive chew out an engineer for wanting to run more tests on a dam, then blames the engineer when the dam fails, it the space of about twenty seconds.  If it keeps pace when you meet the Eco guys, yeah, I can bet it'll be pretty hamfisted.

Fun city building game though, I'm enjoying the demo so far.

I think they just intended him as an antagonist for the player rather then some statement about anything. His superior wasn't too bad of a cliche and reacts entirely reasonably so it may just be an isolated incident rather than an indication of what's to come.

I actually think there might be three factions to this game. If you look in the knowledge database (Or whatever that encyclopedia is called) there are three housing "genres". There's the Tycoons, the Eco, and the third is the Intellectuals (Maybe. I'm to lazy to start the game up and look) who supposedly rely on underwater resources. My guess is that they're going to be portrayed as the middle ground to the Tycoons' high yield, high impact and the Ecos' low yield, low impact.

Interestingly, Armok's name actually originates from arm_ok, a variable in one of Toady's earlier games that kept track of how many of your arms weren't missing.

Third is Techs.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Wow, pretty off but I suppose my point still stands.

Techs are used by both factions to harvest certain resources. They're kinda like the new orientals.

Also, apparently there's 8 player MP. Will people be up for a Bay 12 game?

I don't think it would end well.
People from bay 12 would most likely all use tycoons and transform the isles into toxic wastelands just for kicks (assuming you can't flood things with magma there).

But then we could build waste-cannons which launch toxic waste at each other as ammo, thereby cleaning the island!

Then all the tycoons will make like an army of conscripted dwarven peasants against a megabeast. But then again thats fun too I s'pose.

What if someone uses mostly Techs, though? (not sure if that can work or not from the demo, but it says all the infinite material spots are underwater, which is where the tech are based around it seems)

I think there will be restrictions on using the techs... or they will need certain things you can only produce/dig up from islands.

Or you need to improve your standings with some head researcher guy to unlock certain structures.

Seemed interesting at first, but I wasn't really impressed with their mission selection. And was that a knight guarding the dock entrance during the second mission? Wat.

New metagame trailer released here.

EDIT: Not sure what to think of it. A senate vote that affects gameplay, a president that gives you special abilities, and single-player missions that give you special items? Not to mention "daily quests," which seem like EVERY OTHER NEW GAME HAS. I dunno, I feel like it wasn't needed, and the coding could've been used somewhere else. I guess we'll see when we get the game.

I'd rather see some of these features in a new Anno board game. It would probably work better in the turn based environment.
