Hello all.
« on: November 04, 2011, 07:03:34 pm »

Hello Bay12 forums. Finally joined, after deciding to try picking up Dwarf Fortress again. This time, I'm going to actually try playing DF2010 instead of 40d, like I have been. I actually quit DF before because it had actually gotten boring. In all my time of playing it, despite my best efforts, the game threw almost no challenges at me, and more ridiculously, I had never gotten a siege.

This time, though, I think I'm going to win Dwarf Fortress, just by looking at the embark.

Dig deep! VERY deep! Mine the good stuff at the bottom! (You did say DF was getting easy for you, so do it)

Welcome to Bay12, by the way. Please leave your sanity at the door.

Well, I've embarked (via Play Now), and the name that randomly came up was Alåthîton, "Boltedhall." Sounds insane and dwarven enough for me.

Nothing has been ridiculous so far, no cave-ins at embark and no 2000 z-level adamantine spires. There is, however, an awful lot of exposed gold, and exposed hematite. And it keeps going up.

In the end, there's eleven z-levels upward of exposed Native Gold and Hematite, and four z-levels down. It's even lining my surface pools of water.

Has the amount of metal veins generated been tripled or something?

After I look again, I also notice that one of the mountains is half obsidian, and there's supposed to be flux stone according to site info.

You can adjust mineral scarcity, in world gen.

Well. Someone is going to get a huge spike in fortress value very quickly! and very large migrations and sieges before being even remotely ready!

I'm jealous.  :(
