I can see this dungeon now. The valiant Noble saves his subjects from a host of murders demons violent beastmen and miscenlaneous threat such a mischivious fairies and minute golems. And in his mercy he spares they're lives in favour of a life of imprisonment. And then we show him the error of his mercy. I mean if the majority of prisoners this "dark king" are at least nominally evil it sorta make him look like the good guy.

I don't see why being an orc or fairy means they're "at least nominally evil."

Also, remember that this motley crew ended up in his (central) dungeons in the first place, which probably means they were former subjects.
