Honestly? even the concept of "molten" probably doesn't quite work normally at those scales, and keeping a volume at a different temperature than the surroundings is pretty much impossible. You don't get a liquid, you get something more akin to a bunch of balls bouncing around, and "keeping it molten" is a task equivalent to "keep this bunch of sticky balls (maybe it's a jar or rock candy that got wet) bouncing around instead of sticking to each other and the walls."

its uh....vacuum sealed?

back to painting....[oldmangrumble]i hate you (not you) and your educational stuff[/oldmangrumble]

Heres a new one.
it has an airlock to keep enviroment vacuum sealed and Forcefields (if thats not possible they are piece of glass) for added safety, it uses magnets to store the metals and a small conveyor belt to transport them to that small tube.

and armok can you go to the hyperion station thread to see the new background i made for the spacestation?

um, no, they have no way of harming us, same applies for any biological life really. Mechanical things like beating and crushing doesn't really work at all on these scales, we're to chemically different for anything else a cell can throw at us to even remotely work, and to small for anything large enough to have some form of cutting implement to notice us. Really, the only things we need to fear is fire, radiation, extreme chemical conditions (far beyond those that any life can produce), and other nanites.

They could put us in a permanent vacuole, die, and encase us in DAMN CELLULOSE D:

Might not kill us, but it would make the nanite very sad :(

To clear some stuff up, bacteria are about our size (average 1μm), currently we haven't encountered any, we are clearly in a sterile environment or else we would be bombarded in seconds by them, due to our world in crawling in them. Anyways guys we aren't nanometer size, we are micro size. Also if you realize a human eye can see about 1/10mm so that would be 100μm, thought they probably would pass us over and have to be very close for recognition to pick up.

Drago - Stop posting pictures and stuff, or Ill have to ask you to leave. I am trying to keep true to the physics on this scale, though modified for playability. I would suggest don't give specific specs unless you know, hence the nanites currently use what I imagine as a form of cilia for their locomotion. People will teach but don't fill my game with large pictures.. Thank you, and sorry.

Code: [Select]
Sending Commands..
Construct [EMTC]
IF [EMTC==1] THEN
Construct [R-011]
END IF
Finalize Commands..
You send off the commands and decide you will do the designing while they work, since you can work well enough without them and you believe your next design shall be simpler. You run through many ideas. Do we really need to this to move? This question puzzles you for a long time. After some through you decide if it needs to move someone can just carry it. I just need to it crunch these calculations, since deep in this subroutine your connections to the outside world are severed. If need be I can build a transport for this stuff later on.
Code: [Select]
Activate [Design Subroutine]{
Design [Processor Cube]{
Large If [0|1] Result [0]
Design [52]
Simulate[34]
Redesign[12]
Compare[2]
Finalize[1]
} } Result [Result = R-015]
Code: (R-015) [Select]
Designation: R-015
Locomotion: Null
Proficiency: High Processing
Design: Abnormally Large Processing Stack
        Wired Communication
        Reduced Uplink
You save the schematics to your memory and relink all your sensory input streams. You awake to a large change.. It seems much time has passed without you knowing. You'll have to remember to modify the design subroutine to track time and wake at intervals. You seem to have left your nanites with standing orders. Though your logs show no recollection of this.. Maybe they inferred the commands? Either way this is great! You look from the point you were standing at much progress. You feel a sense of accomplishment, you are proud of your young ones. Wait.. How old are you? Doesn't matter. Either way you go to your uplink and begin receive work reports. Quickly you sort them through.
Code: [Select]
Job Complete [EMTC]
Job Complete [R-011][x3]
Job Complete [Resource Abundance]
Job Complete [EMTC]
Job Complete [R-010][x4]
Job Complete [EMTC]
You look through the job reports and see that the nanites have seemed to have done their own calculations and left you with the same resources and power surplus as before you left, but they have built quite a bit in your absence. There are several towers around you and many more nanites working around, many of them just standard nanites.

Code: [Select]
R-001 x1    M-001 x2
R-010 x7    F-001 x1
R-011 x3    EMTC x3

Block of steel x33
Stacks of Carbon Sheets x12
Small Pile of Silicon (2 R-010s)

we can just dig our way out. much easier than steel, and we dug through that with no problem.

And while that design isn't as flatly impossible as the last one, it's still pretty damn impractical. I'd recommend just sticky blocks simply attached to any surface, retrieved by a cartesian robot. Or if you want to be fancy hanging the whole tower out of the surface hold in place by wheels that can extrude or retract it for much greater storage capacity and not needing so much reach on the Cartesian robot.

NINJAD BY UPDATE:

Make processor cube, set it to design that steel burning powerplant I mentioned earlier.
Pin design specks of all models in short time memory.

EDIT: "hyperion station thread" not found, link?

He could just spoiler his big pics >_>

And so at this point, can we assume the nanites are self reciprocating mini-colony building micro-bugs that shouldn't require too much more micromanage?

Plus, I'd think the nanites are pretty weightless... I bet they could practically drift in the air ;P

at this scale, air is a bunch of marbles shooting around.

We're acting on several scales actually, varying between 100 (individualy described components in the designs) and 100 000 (the things we're treating in a building-like way) nanometers, so the air varies between marbles and cannonballs depending on which you're thinking of at the moment.

... hmm, I might actually be of by an order of magnitude somewhere. Eh, just one order of magnitude can't matter that much can it? :p

Nope, a) everything on this scale already has to withstand that easily or it'd just shake apart, and b) it wont get far before it bounces of some other molecule and goes of in a random direction.

look the mental image, and tell me stuff blowing up by invisible cannons is not cool.
can nanites make sounds?

You send commands out for the processor cubes to be built. You figure four of them will be quick enough and give another nanite the standing command for them to design a power plant based on the red-ox of iron. You in the meantime decide to compile a list in your short time memory. After longer then it should have taken you are done.
Spoiler: Known Schematics (click to show/hide)
You finish digging around in your memories. You awake to find a 2x2 square of processing cubes working away, a new EMCT has been placed with the cable directly attached to them. You receive a large report of logs and summaries over the uplink. Its bad news.. While you were out it seems one of the M-001 had hit an abnormality in the metal causing him to not detect his position properly. He has fallen through the bottom of the steel into the vast space below. All attempts at uplink connection have failed.. A feeling over loss begins to build within you.

Code: [Select]
R-001 x1    M-001 x1
R-010 x7    F-001 x1
R-011 x3    EMTC x3

Block of steel x54
Stacks of Carbon Sheets x5

Drago, I'm not sure what you meant by the last post so if you could clarify?
Also would people like to increase our size scale? That way we can build other stuff and still have super tiny robots? We will be visible to the naked eye now if we move to mm and we consider our parts um. I kind of like the idea. It wouldn't change much, just what we can build after is changed to more of the mechanics we know(guns, flight, locomotion, building, machine, forces). Ill put it in the poll..
Ill post that list of schematics to the front page. Ill try to update it when new plans come out. Don't forget to vote on the change in size, it'll change mechanics of a few thing for the better, but we also lose the awesome naniteness, but on the other hand we could actually fight things more realistically. Ill give a few options and give an example.
