What does the "liquid depth" option mean?

In the lazy newb pack it's turned off at default.

Is the lazy newb pack's default settings giving you the full dwarf fortress experience?

When "liquid depth" is turned on, then water and magma show up as numbers from 1-7 to indicate how deep they are. When it's turned off, they just show up as ≈ (and water alternates between ≈ and ~ if it's flowing).

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

I'd recommend turning it on if you're going to have move any water/magma.

At minimum, if your dwarfy creation springs a leak it's highly useful to know if the water depth is low enough to send in an emergency mason repair order. (If it's magma the depth doesn't matter--send 'em in. ;) )
