Swords aren't just for lopping off limbs... There are many types, made of many alloys, specialising in different styles of fighting against different people.

The closest you could get to a scimitar is a dwarf seeing one, and creating on in it's image using dwarven techniques, thus creating a dwarven scimitar.

this would need a revamp of smithing jobs, such as melt object, COPY object, make object. ect..

SO you would tell smith1 to copy Goblin whip1.
smith1 copys and now knows how to make Goblin whip1, renamed to dwarven whip1.
smith1 can now make dwarven whip1, but smith2 cannot.
to get smith2 to make the whip he has to Aprentice (i think this is planned) under smith1 to learn dwarven whip1.

with a little work your dwarves might know how to make every weapon in the game.

this can also apply to other jobs, carpenter1 knows how to make a double bed {good for mariages :) } and can teach other carpenters to make said double bed.

Though maybe that's the issue. The concept is just too simple for the dwarven mind to grasp!

you use a whip not to kill or but to hurt and maim
Unless you're a goblin lasher. Though, going by the raws, they seem to be using something more akin to a car aerial than an Indiana-Jones-style whip.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

once weapons get better defined then, there will be parts to copy

Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.

Instead of adding a new skill for making every weapon, I think we should just add 'civilization knowledge' that represents how much your civ knows about a certain weapon. Making a weapon would slightly increase your civilization knowledge of it, and this would also allow more differentiation between the civs (one dwarf civ would be good at making spears, another would be known for their vast knowledge of crossbows, but have little experience with axes). Every civ could start making halberds, two-handed swords and the like, but unless they know how to make those weapons correctly, it will take a long time and likely result in a low quality product.

I don't see any point in preventing the production of whips or poisoned blowdarts. Dwarfs will use them without any concerns about being cruel, so producing them should be no different. Besides, casing goblins to pass out from pain would be a good way of getting POWs once that gets implemented.

Somewhere along the way this innocent thread about cheese went horribly, horribly wrong.
I'd say it's par for the course. Did you see that crundle thread? That one started out wrong.

I don't see any sense on someone getting sad only by making a whip or a blowgun.

Look, they get happy thoughts from revelling in slaughter, I don't think they're going to care about the weapon they're using.

Someone once made me the raws to a spork which my dwarves used to... Good effect on enemies.
