I think I've done it guys. I think I've got an idea that won't become so over-the-top I can't control its spiraling complications. We shall see if this is true shortly.

Let's get started!

*Ahem* You are an aspiring martial artist by the name of *REDACTED* who has come to the TWENTY-SEVENTH ULTRA-NATIONAL MULTIDISCIPLINARY MARTIAL ARTS JAMBOREE, located in Toledo, Ohio in search of fame, fortune, and a whole mess of people to beat up. But to do this, you'll need to be fast, you'll need to be strong, and above all else you'll have to be willing to deal with the frightening insanity of the other contestants!

Each player has a few stats which go on their character sheet:

Hit Points (HP): Determines how much damage a character can receive before going down for the count. Unless specified as a TO THE DEATH match, falling to 0 HP will only render a character unconscious. Players begin with 10 HP.
Focus Points (FP): Focus determines your ability to use SUPER MOVES, an as of yet unachieved feature. However, once a player creates or unlocks their SUPER MOVE, each successful and damaging attack on their opponent and successfully blocked attack from their opponent will generate 1 Focus Point. Critical damage will generate 2 FP. Once enough is gathered, it may be expended to use a SUPER MOVE. Outside of combat FP is lost at 2 FP per turn.
Defense: Determines a player's ability to resist damage, or block it with speed. Each point equates to a +1 bonus to defense. Each player begins with 0 Defense (1 with Wily Coyote Style and 2 with Brick Wall style) and can only increase it through training.
Armor: The average player's ability to resist damage is through armor. Armor is a double-edged sword, as with each point of armor you receive, you lose two points of Defense. However, against enemies with low damage output, or attack high enough you cannot defend against them, it can be invaluable. Armor can only be acquired by purchasing it from a vendor with prize money earned from fights.
Fighting Spirit: Determines a player's ability to resist and even ignore damage. Only intense training or a psychological spurring can generate Fighting Spirit. Each point of Fighting Spirit gives you a resistance of +1 to all forms of damage, with no decrease to Defense.

Spoiler: Fighting Styles (click to show/hide)

Each player must select a starting fighting style, which will influence their basic starting abilities. From there, they can train and eventually reach a level at which they may develop a fighting style of their very own. There are three basic styles to begin with.

Ferocious Feline: An offensive martial art, primarily composed of floundering about like a tangled mass of tangled, flailing limbs, hoping that you will catch your opponent off guard by the sheer suicidal insanity of your assault. You begin with the Wet Tabby Scratch move, and the passive ability "Did I just do that?!"

Wily Coyote: A more balanced style, this form has no main focus, instead relying on your average skills combined with a particularly high cunning to out-perform your stronger, faster opponents. You begin with the "Here, hold this!" move, and the passive ability "We killed that guy, but we used his idea."

Brick Wall: A fighting style focused almost totally on defense, whether from extreme endurance, masterful speed, or sheer ignorance of pain. Begins with the "Ooh, shiny!" move, and the passive ability Too stupid to die.

During fights, the roll system will be active, as it is with all things. The roll possibilities are as follows:

1- Epic Fail: Whatever you tried to do, you failed. Hard. Things go horribly and hilariously awry.
2- Significant Failure: Any hope of success is crushed under the boot heel of the RNG.
3- Mild Failure: While nothing has gone wrong, technically, you have certainly accomplished none of your goals.
4- Success: You accomplish your task satisfactorily. This time...
5- Major Success: You go above and beyond, passing your task with flying colors.
6- Epic Success: Luck is on your side for once! Things go better than you could have expected.

During battle, players have several options to conduct combat. They may make basic attacks, which need no special clarification beyond the description of how exactly you are attacking. These receive no bonuses or penalties without external interference in their effectiveness. They may also perform their special attacks and abilities, such as their starter moves. These impart special bonuses and potentially extra damage and other effects, but have cooldowns. For example, the starter moves have TWO-TURN COOLDOWNS. Finally, they have the ability to create their own moves. This is a more long-term process, and can take multiple turns to perfect. When a player wants to learn a new move, they must fully describe the process, and effects of the move, at which point the combat roll will determine whether it hits, and its effectiveness. From there, the move must be perfected outside of combat, at which point it will become a permanent move to use at any time. (Any effects and cooldown times are open to modification or outright refusal by me.)

The actual combat takes several steps:

STEP 1: INITIATIVE

I am rather blatantly ripping this one off from Mushroom Kingdom Wars, however, it had never occurred to me to use initiative before and it was too good an idea to pass up. At the start of the round, each player will roll 1d20, which will serve as their initiative score. They, and their opponents, will have their initiatives listed, and the order from first to last will go from highest to lowest. The actions from the next step will be carried out in this order.

STEP 2: MANEUVERING

During this step, all characters will begin the stages of their attacks. Any characters who are adjacent to one another on the initiative list will enter a CLASH. The rest shall, in order, perform COMBAT.

STEP 3: COMBAT

During this step, players and foes alike will make their moves in order, attempting to bring down their enemies. In combat, the attacker begins by rolling 1d20, with any bonuses, against the defense roll of the enemy, which is 1d20+any bonuses to Defense. If the attacker wins, he may begin the damage roll, which is generically a d6, although weapons may use other die as substitutes.

(Weapons, as of yet, are unavailable, and shall be explained in detail once the shop for them is encountered.)

STEP 4: CLASHES

In this occasional last step, Any characters attacking one another and are next to each other in initiative ignore any forms of defense and instead launch at each other with full-on attacks. In this situation, defense is ignored, and only the attack rolls of both are taken into consideration. The one with the higher attack may perform his damage roll as normal.

"WELCOOOOOOOOOOME TO THE TWENTY-SEVENTH ULTRA-NATIONAL MULTIDISCIPLINARY MARTIAL ARTS JAMBOREE!!!" screams some blonde man holding a microphone. Martial Artists have gathered from all over the world to practice their form here, and compete in a no-holds-barred tournament with one major goal in mind: to collect the mysterious, precious, fantastical GRAND PRIIIIIIIIIZE!

The six of you stand at the gate to this marvelous event.

This is the Temple of Aye-Brau Lotusson. A famous gathering place for aspiring martial artists, and host of the Jamboree since its inception. From here, the six of you could either head up to the inside of the Temple to await the announcement of the preliminary matches, or head off to mingle with the crowd.
