I like how many decent people are in these forums; albeit with each their own unique scruples (like Necro's magma fetish). In other forums the guy that posted the "I do believe I have been taken for a fool" thread would likely have gotten his ass kicked in them. Unlike those forums, we actually help some people out (I've been in his shoes a few times, and once had my (and maybe a sibling or 2's) social network accounts bum-rushed by a forum before; and I thought they were as open-minded as we were at the time when I was asking for even a little bit of general advice (mind you, I was a member for at least a year in the place, so I was known well enough to be considered rather normal at the time). It was a nightmare until I turned the tables on them later on (IE- I finally snapped, and scared them shitless in return. Little did they know, having been bullied my whole life made me quite resistant and able to predict almost every move); long story, not willing to tell). Heck, even my thread regarding talking to oneself was quite reassuring to hear that I'm not the only one that does it, and to such degrees mentioned throughout.

Yea, this is the #2 best forum I have been on as well. #1 was the d20 modern section of wizards of the coast before 4e/Gleemax murdered the forum and buried it in the backyard.

You know I have a nice little method for telling the relative quaility of forum:
You find the resident troll/s and simply observe.
They are usualy quite indicative of how the forum as whole thinks, what is considered important to the forum goers and the general intelligence of the forum.

we here on bay 12 are lunatics. we are like a room full of intelligent lunatics all competing to out-lunatise and out-smart each other, while helping each other along the way to provide more of a challenge. we strive to make kitten killers, magma traps, child-military training rooms and beserk trader pits, doing these in increasingly ingenoius ways. we will work together on a fort, and someone, somewhere, will no matter what, fuck it up. we can and do help new people get into this endless cycle of lunacy and intelligence, and we in the end, exploit the many features of dwarf fortress, and the other games that are posted. all trolls and spambots fail, as we simply take the piss out of them, before the admins lock it. we create the most sadistic ways of killing, for fun. we mod in massive fire breathing, lava spewing, webbing beasts that can rape a fort singl handedly. and why? to try and prove ourselves better than the others in a friendly way.
