I think that's why Portal never allowed the portals to work on moving surfaces. I would imagine that as being crushed by your own weight; literally. Ouch.

Oh and just right-click and click on 'view image' to see it full-scale.

I really should cut it down a bit so its easier to view.

And I think the end result would be a disk of energetic plasma a few nanometers thick between two portal interfaces. Your entire universe would be defined by the tiny space between the portals.

What if you put a portal in a portal, then threw a rock into it?

Probably the portals would just collapse.

You can't put a portal into a portal due to the surface requirement.

Portals are not surfaces.

Ah, but what if you had a moonrock plate (The white tile thingies), and inserted one that had a portal into the other? They could fit, so god have mercy on us: The laws of physics shall no longer apply!

I do believe we've taken physics for a fool. It was nice, but we're just not that interested in following it.

Actually, considering Portal2 allowed multiplayer to use 2 different sets of portals, what would happen if we were to portal-AA on a wall, and AB on the plate, and BA on the plate, and BB on the wall, and toss the plate (with AB and BA) through it in the opposite-facing direction?

Other ideas: can one get a recursive game of ping-pong going with 2 sets of portals active?

actually, if the person holding the portalgun was the one between the interfaces, wouldn't the portalgun also be crushed, and therefore the portals deactivate? you would still be dead, of course, but instead of being in a portal-generated limbo, you would be a pile of test-subject puree on the moving walls.

Probably yes, if you had the gun. The person in the picture does not.

Where did you find the image?  I'd like to save (size issues).

I found it here: http://forums.thinkingwithportals.com/mapping-help/squashed-by-two-moving-portals-t4126.html

Not sure who made it.

In that thread someone tries the idea out on a cube with portal's engine.

The cube thumps into itself and is eventually squeezed so hard it pops out the top and flies off.
