I'd also say that 6 is pushing it, in terms of keeping player interest.  It will, after all, be 25 years before my turn again, and a lot can happen.

Usually a succession game is not cyclical unless there are no more volunteers. Rather, I would suggest we stick with the 6 now and once we're down to 2 or 3 left let one more person volunteer after each turn.

Yeah, if someone drops out or doesn't respond timely, then their turn is skipped and whoever's next goes.

Also not joining this but certainly going to be watching, can't wait to see the road to glorious failure success when earth and the sol system runs out of resources. (At least that's what happened on my first two tries, need to colonize faster damn it.)

Use Geo teams, they uncover new resources.  Either way, being a B12 extrasolar empire promises for glorious bloodshed.  To that degree, more NPRs would allow for more fighting~  Or the SM could add a new system or a new NPR to up the difficulty a bit, sort of like a good old DM.

If it turns out 5 years is too long on the first go through there is no reason it couldn't be shortened a bit once the last player plays through.

EDIT: I think I am going to invent my own company name for any thing I develop for ships (and maybe the ships themselves) during my stint.

I will most certainly be doing my own little thing, but helping the overall empire for sure.  There is a lot of fun to be had in custom ship names (especially giving a name to each individual ship), shipyard names, solar body names, and I think you can rename civilian shipping lines as well.

I will most likely contribute mostly in Naval Power with three massive planned ships, and their escorts which I already have names for, and advances into Missiles/Kinetic weaponry. (Mainly Railguns, Missile Launchers, and Magazines)

Massive Planned Ships
1.) The Pillar of Autumn Class: Carrier
2.) The Heart of Summer Class: Battleship
3.) The Hand of Winter Class: Cruiser

Escorts
1.) Nymph Class: Frigate
2.) Satyr Class: Frigate
3.) Centaur Class: Frigate
4.) Pegasus Class: Frigate
5.) Cyclops Class: Frigate
6.) Drake Class: Frigate
7.) Excalibur Class: Destroyer
8.) Gilgamesh Class: Destroyer
9.) One Eye Class: Destroyer

Fleet Name: Might of the Seasons

I'll join if there's still room, if not, I'll be an alternate.

Alright, 6 is the limit I'll agree.  I'll also include a list of alternates who can fill in if we lose a person.

What should be the time limit? One week at most?

I was gonna say like a day or two.  I'd rather not drag this out over years...

Well I'd prefer to keep it down to that as well, but sometimes real life gets in the way.  Lets just see how fast people post, if they start to slow down, then we'll make a limit.  My first journal entry is about to follow this post.

Do I assume that you're doing this cyclically, then? IE, once you get to the last person you restart from the beginning? I was under the impression each 5 year limit would be a new player as long as interest lasts, like Boatmurdered was.

Governor's Log, January 1st, 2025

Its finally here.  Finally time for me to ascend to the rank of governor of Earth.  After all these years, Earth is united at last.  All five-hundred million of us left, that is.  So much war has cost us over six billion people.  The only good thing in it is that the wars didn't bring about a nuclear holocaust as many had believed.  Nope, all nuclear missiles were destroyed before the Great War broke out.

Near the end of the war a group of American and European scientists uncovered what was the most significant scientific breakthrough of our history.  They call it Trans-Newtonian Science.. with it, it brought new technologies never thought possible.  More powerful engines, weaponry, sensors.  You name it, it brought it.

Before I ascended to my current leadership position, we had already converted all of our old industrial facilities to the new ones.  Mines, automated mines, ordinance factories, fuel refineries, a powerful deep space tracking station, you name it.  Our industrial capabilities are far beyond what was previously obtainable, even with the meager population we now have.  In space, we even have an eight-thousand ton capacity naval shipyard complete with two slipways for ships.  No such ships have been designed, though.

Because of my academic training, my governing will increase the planet's mining capacity by 15%, our factory production by 15%, and our economy by 10%.  No other administrator can match that, that is why I was chosen for this job.

My first act as Governor was to order the design of a military geological survey vessel, the Woden, and a military grade Nuclear Thermal Engine to go with it.  The engine won't take but two weeks to design.  Once finished, the Woden can begin construction.

As for industrial installations, a large number of mines, construction factories, and infrastructure have been designated for construction, as well as a second ground force training facility, a commercial starport, and a military academy.

Two scientists have been told to work on research, each using their maximum of 10 facilities.  Charlie Murrah, a specialist in Power and Propulsion with a 15% increase in research rate, is focusing on researching the military grade Nuclear Thermal Engine, and will follow up with researching a Fighter sized engine of the same type.  The other scientist, Madison Shah, a specialist in Logistics and Ground Combat 15%, is researching multiple ways to build smaller fuel storage, engineering bays, and command modules for ships.

I've also set up a geology team lead by Rear Admiral Morgan Fox to look into finding additional resources on Earth and hopefully other planets.

And so begins my term.

----------------------------

This game is even less screenshot capable than dwarf fortress.. so if anyone wants to see any particular screens, let me know.  I'll definitely post ship schematics, though.

We'll do what majority vote chooses.  We can either cycle the current 6 players and have the back ups fill in if someone can't do it - or we can just continue with new players until we run out, then we'll cycle.

Governor's Log, July 26th, 2026

Both Woden class Geological Survey Vessels were completed in April and have been steadily scanning the solar system.  'Odin' and 'Hermod' were the names of the ships.  Commanders Baily Fox and John Wall were assigned to the ships, due to their knowledge of survey equipment.

The Woden class Geological Survey Vessel's Schematics are as follows:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Research is progressing well.  Research has been completed for the command module, small engineering bay, and small fuel storage.  Next up is tiny engineering bay and tiny fuel storage.  We are a bit less than half way done researching fighter-sized engine technology.

Tons of new minerals have been discovered on Earth.  Hundreds of tons of Duranium, Tritanium, Corundium, and Corbomite have been discovered by our team.  They've completed their study and have been shipped off to Luna to further hone their skills.
