dev log- historical figure migrants
« on: October 28, 2011, 08:39:55 pm »

From today's devlog

"Any dwarves from your abandoned fortresses should also show up in subsequent forts"

What are the possibilities?  Does this mean we could get whole squadrons of trained and armed troops to immigrate to a new fort? Or pet dragons with their masters? what about nobles...can they immigrate --will they still be nobles?

I see a lot of weapon potential---training a bunch of adventurers to be awesome and then they immigrate to your fort with great skills..and whatever reactions you've given them...

other possibilities?

Make a fort that abuses the bolt re-melting hack, train infinite weaponsmiths.  No more lye maker migrants in the next fort!  I'm also looking forward to smiths who can burn through the resources of one site, and then move to another site for fresh steel.

I hope this also means that historical figures aren't turned into oblivion upon map exit now. There's been so many time that I've memorized the name of an enemy for future reference, only to later remember that they have been erased from the face of the planet.

Very unfulfilling...

They may have been erased from their civ listings, but I can guarantee you that if you search hard enough in adventure mode, you can find that pesky goblin general that escaped.  I know this because I have seen goblin ____masters in towns near my abandoned forts, with masterwork equipment based on their skill level.  I assume they are from the goblins that escaped after I broke a siege on my walls, after having gone through a few weapon traps.

I can see this going horribly wrong. Your army of uber-dorfs that have moved from site to site a hundred times and become godlike in their powers assuming they don't die of old age, become vampires and had other various syndromes/curses put on them resulting in a mixed and varied lot of mutants and demigods eventually getting sick to death of being harassed by pathetic, annoying hippie elves, bipolar humans and arsehole goblins, banding together with their stockpiles of glorious adamantine mined from the earths core and comitting abject genocide on everything within and beneath the whole generated world, leaving the outer and inner spheres for future dwarf descendants.

I wonder what happens to retired adventurers when a fort is abandoned, will you still be able to "bring them out of retirement" for more adventures?

I look forward to building a fortress dedicated to one of my old adventurers. It will be the next best thing to creating your own factions, whenever that gets added.

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
