He got hit a bolt from a goblin crossbowman, walked over a cage trap and must've passed out from the pain.

Don't think I'll be able to rescue him before the lashers get him, but it'd be a bit awkward bringing him to the depot and trading him for some strawberry seeds by accident.

Wait, that's actually a good idea :D
Dwarves can be cage trapped, and goblins can be weapon trap trained :D

Can you actually sell dwarves? because this would reduce the immigrant problem  without having to build places to kill them.

Dunno, I'd try it, but I realised this is one of the dwarves that was blinded defending my fort from a Titan :[

Saving private Urdim AWAAAY!!
Probably wouldn't let you bring the cages to the depot, but I'm going to deliberately try to cage some migrants after this ;]

Oh wow, the cage trap has probably just saved the farmer's life, the goblins can't get too him.

I now have the image of a dwarf and a girraffe suspended in the air in a cage looking down at all the goblin lashers out for blood >_>

I've deliberately trained a goblin in this thread:

http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=92531.0

So yes, danger rooms do work on them.

I'm going to try go a step further and make the goblins kill another civ, which if I'm correct should make them friendly.
(It works on animal civs).

I don' t think that will work with goblins.

The bug with animal people probably means that animal people don't count as historical figures by default.

There's a bug that causes creatures who get historical records after appearing on the map to become friendly. (Possibly with the caveat "unless they become a historical figure by killing one of your dwarves or pets, and are an enemy of your civilization".)

I think goblins are given historical records just after they're generated and just before they're sent onto the map, so they probably won't get a historical record generated and become bugged friendly.

But it's worth verifying for the sake of ‼science‼.

I actually had a rather interesting experience with goblins being trained through the means of weapons traps.. by accident.
The first defense I threw up to keep my fort safe until I could improve on it was a pit of Upright Spike traps filled with wooden Menanacing Spikes with a drawbridge on top. When a lever was pulled, the baddies were dropped into said pitting, destroying my foes quite nicely if I do say so myself.  8)
Until a pair of lashers defied all logic  :o
An ambush came, and after I lured the gobbos over the bridge and dropped them into my pit of death, I thought I was done. Soon I started to get a bunch of job cancellation messages due to "Goblin Lasher" so I zoomed to the spot of trouble. The goblins had been transformed to Master Lashers. The fall had crippled them, but they were still very much alive, and almost marked the end of my fledgling fortress. That one dropped trained them up in almost all their skills because they were nigh impossible to kill afterwards, even with about a page of red texting recording their injuries.
For reference, I used +5 Legendary carpenters to craft 10 spikes for each trap inthe pit, and had the whole area covered.
I would imagine a ineffective gobbo trainer could be made from this, replacing the spikes with training spears. It'd probably be much less efficient than a danger room though.

Urdim isn't probably very comfortable there, the cage is nether-cap. Basically meaning that he is sitting inside a dwarven fridge.

You mean you trapped a dwarf in the freezer?

I guess it's a good thing they can't operate doorknobs. Wait...

Well, I now have an urge to end sentient life.

I think I'll go meditate for a bit.

Ha ha, how did you know he was sitting in a nether cap cage?

Ah well, freed him at last, but he might starve to death soon if no dwarf helps him up :[
Total lasher body count: 7 dead dwarves, Urdim might be added to the butcher's bill.

If they manage to run away, that means all of the demons have been killed. Otherwise no problem, other than finding an army of legendary gobbos in hell in adventure mode :P

If in the next version the historical goblins will be part of sieges like how historical dwarves will become part of immigration waves, the next version is going to become epic. Train up an army of super-goblins, release them back into the wilds and enter a war of legends.

I hope by then that the bug where goblins just stand around their leader is fixed.
