I still defend we should relocate our cities to the underground, and the surface be damned.

We've screwed stuff up via unintended consequences of our technology. Trying to use large scale,  experimental terraforming/geo-engineering involving release of large amounts of foreign particles into the atmosphere to mimic a large scale volcanic eruption sounds like a good idea, really?

I'd like to see serious research on the side effects of such a release. Environmental impact, crop yields, etc. From the Guardian article it cited, it seems there is already some serious opposition from environmental groups and other watch groups.

On the other hand... I now think I need to build a large balloon shaped structure with a magma stack, to release pressurized magma aerosol into the atmosphere in order to "geo-engineer" a hellish fire-scape to reduce the effects of Dark Fortress emissions.

Especially since sulfates tend to end up as sulfuric acid really easily when they run into water and dissolve into it.  You'd think they'd realize that sulfuric acid + water in the upper atmosphere = acid rain.

Personally, I don't believe people are actually going to do anything, particularly here in the US, until all of the idiots around realize that there really is something happening.
I'm all for doing stuff to minimize our impact on the environment (I like my planet, even if I do want off it), however, show me something peer reviewed with verifiable data sources that shows humans have made a change outside the noise level.  So far the "science" for Anthropogenic Climate Change (or Anthropogenic Global Warming if you prefer the older term) has been seriously lacking in signal to noise.

So what you're saying is that we in the UK will soon be in possession of a prototype weapon capable of covering, say, a small continent in sulfuric acid? Well, there I was thinking the government was all about reckless cuts and scandals about minister's secret gay lovers tagging along to top secret briefings. If David Cameron had just done a small press release announcing that times might be tough all round, with rising prices and rising taxes but that we now have an acid based super weapon then I reckon the coalition wouldn't be doing so badly in the polls.

or maybe Valve goes out of business because they invested too heavily in something which then fails - like, say, human civilization.
Alternatively, initiate strife to refuse additional baked goods, and then abscond.

Let's see, there's Jones and Mann 2004, published in the Reviews of Geophysics, which is definitely peer reviewed. Have you read that one? The last line of the abstract says "Only anthropogenic forcing of climate, however, can explain the recent anomalous warming in the late 20th century." That sounds to me like they (and their peer reviewers) seem to think that they've got a signal well above the noise level. Of course, you don't specify what your criteria for "signal to noise" is, so I'm sure you could claim anything fails.

Ha ha, you kidding? Since when has anyone cared about negative side effects these days:(

Global warming is happening. We are on the upwards peak after an ice age where the ice melts, then in ten thousand years or so we will cool again. Well. We would if humans would stop speeding the process and royally buttfucking the natural order of things.

To be honest I'm surprised that no one has suggested covering the entire surface of the Earth in magma for the reason: YOU CAN'T MAKE MAGMA ANY WARMER, THEREFORE WE STOP GLOBAL WARMING BY BRINGING IT TO MAXIMUM URISTDEGREES!

If you covered in the entire surface of the world in magma, it wouldn't be called magma, it would be called lava silly >_>
