Immersive Dwarf Fortress in ASCII Art
« on: October 26, 2011, 09:51:20 pm »

Shortly after posting about 8BitMUSH, a text-based capitalistic and artistic based social MUSH (played via telnet or a web-based client), Poltifar and myself started a project that I think you guys might find pretty interesting. We've begun to make scenes from Dwarf Fortress in the game, and it's been turning out really well.

So far we have 6 rooms that can be navigated between (all illustrated), as well as a few objects that interact with players (dwarves).

If you're interested in taking a look around, just go to here. And type the following command to get to the starting room (after you create a character):
@tel #30621
You can type @link me=here once there to set yourself to start there when you log in, as well.

Simply type the letters on the exits listed in each room to navigate. Type 'look <name>' to look closer at any listed objects.

If you want to help build or make art, just post your 8bit username here...you can make art with the cool web-based art client. (no login needed)

This is neat. Not tried ANSI before or a MUSH.

Using their standalone drawing client I made a booze store:

Nothing amazing I know but I'm mostly pleased with it.

If you want to use it you'll have to give me directions as I'm not sure how to get it out of the program and into the MUSH.

You'll probably have to get quinnr on to allow you to modify the zone (he's lolhead on the mush).

In other news, I've temporarily stopped working on the DF place because I've lost inspiration. Instead I'm working on an unrelated zone on the moon that will have tons of puzzles.

@Merchant: What?

Vattic, you'll have to use their web-client and make an account on the MUSH. Once you tell me your name I can give you instructions on how to either add it yourself or send me the art to add it.

Perhaps, but not for a while at least.
We obviously need a Dwarven Gift Shop, or require tickets to get in.

With a magma flooding lever in a different room that makes the vendor invisible and changes the description to burning hot lava that spams the player with 'YOU ARE ON FIRE!' until they leave? (Because you can't really teleport other players..)

We all know you're just doing that because you want money.

Money might possibly maybe have a role in this.

But hey, good news: This is giving me TONS of puzzle-making experience! I'll make some dwarven puzzles once I'm back on the fort work.

You also apparently lack anything for Taste, Smell or Listen in the fortress.
