I need you to make a single adamantine glove, covered in as many diamonds, rock crystals and other white/clear gems as possible, then equip it on a legendary dodger... Name him 'smooth criminal'.

I wonder if diamonds will make a good chainmail material. Just try to imagine chainmail made of hundreds of diamonds linked together by adamantine thread.  ::)

And I thought cotton shirts were rough on the nipples.

As long as the diamonds are smoothed rather than jagged, it should actually be quite comfortable, I'd imagine.

I just thought of a jagged gem encrusted glove and imagined it being used to challenge foes to duels in a bloody manner:

Adventurer: "I CHALLENGE YOU TO A DUEL"
*removes glove and slaps opponent with it, lacerating the face*
Adventurer: "Do you accept?"
*lacerating slap*
Adventurer: "Or are you a COWARD!?!"
*lacerating slap*
Your opponent has bled to death

I've been ever-so-tempted to make a fancy mod, including tuxedos, tophats, monocles, black dye, canes, pocket watches, and the glove as a weapon.  Either way, I want to make an artifact-comparable scepter.

Sounds like gear for a semi-mega beast since they already like using gloves as a weapon.  Or a penguin-based FB.

Here's the thread that pioneered the exploit: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=51423.0

In short, if I understand it correctly, it relies on a single unstacked bolt equaling 0.1 bar (one stack of 25 melted together makes 1/4 bar, I think), and that it takes only one bar to make 25 bolts. So firing off all the bolts and melting them individually gets you 2.5 bars, although it took only 1 bar to make the bolts in the first place.

Individual bolts can be melted to produce a net gain of the bolt metal. I.E. if you make 25 steel bolts (Which takes 1 bar) You can melt the bolts individually to get more than one bar of steel back, allowing you to 'make' metal.

I also have a question. How are you getting diamonds and other valuable gems from civs that don't start with them all?

You need to make an adamantine war hammer menacing with spikes of obsidian, hanging rings of platinum, and MORE spikes of Rose Gold.
Bonus: Use Dig Deeper, and get mithril for the main hammer!
SUPERDWARFYBONUS: Put it in a statue of Cacame.

As far as I know, you can't add artistic improvements using reactions...

so you're still gonna have to have a real artifact to get dwarves striking down elves.

Probably would be put to best use in a statue. Unless of course you want your intrepid adventurer to wield the equivalent of a wiffle bat.
