So I've had an idea for a while. The basic concept is simple: Let's deck out an item in exaggerated wealth. The process is a bit of a headache. What I essentially want to do is to get a full masterpiece item, or set of items, decorated with some of the most expensive materials available. For instance, a steel battle axe adorned with hanging rings of platinum, gold, and rose gold, menacing with spikes of black bronze, obsidian, and goblin bone, encircled with bands of ruby, emerald, and elf bone, and plated in silver.
With recent modding advances, this has become easier, as you can specify an exact material to be used and add a specific decoration type, for instance you can specifically choose to decorate an axe with hanging rings of ruby, if you desire. Obviously, this allows otherwise untouchable items to be touched with different decorations, like gem-encrusted weapons. It could also be made to do it for free, allowing for infinite free decorations, and I believe it can even add the same decoration multiple times (three times the emerald rings!). What it cannot do, is change the quality level. That is still purely dwarf-based.
So what I'm planning is to start a fort with one or several modded-in decorating shops. I may runesmith my dwarves for higher skill, as that could otherwise take forever. Then I'll be using special stockpiles and burrows specify material use and some control of quality levels. The end result will be massive piles of extremely expensive garbage, and one perfect item.
The current plan is to have the exploiting "bolts melt into multiple bars" trick so I can reliably get productive amounts of steel and candy, or other materials if I really want, and do this is a world thick with beasts and civilizations, so that I could make a collection of armor and weapons and allow an adventurer to reclaim them and go tear apart the countryside in dazzling brilliance. Of course I'm also likely to make the fortress itself a dungeon so that the adventurer has to work for the prize! Maybe add other forts with dungeon themes so that the player doesn't become bored with the weakling megabeasts.
So then, the question becomes, what shall I produce? Armor and weapons, clearly, but I could also produce a quiver or two packed with astounding bolts of equal quality. Nothing like throwing away diamonds to make you feel fancy, eh? Clothing is also possible, in fact easier due to the production-line efficiency that I can handle cloth with. A cloak and hood would go well with anything, right? And they could even be decorated, though I don't imagine that bands of metal would work very well on a cloak. Then there's various other items and exploitables, like goblets and totems and stuff. Ever wanted to bash someone's head in with the holy grail? Or a ruby-plated demon's head?
Someone tell me, what would be thoroughly entertaining to see produced, and bonus points if you can describe the most entertaining use for the item. There are no -real- limits here, I can effectively decorate anything with anything, but let's try to remain within the realm of realism (lol). No hanging rings of dwarven wine, please!
