Demons spawn away from pits
« on: April 30, 2008, 08:51:00 pm »

I was digging my way down to the bottom of the map when I discovered some demon chambers. Bastards didn't even have the courtesy to let me see any adamantine before the chambers...oh, well. Anyway, this is a side view of the method I was using to go downwards, and the pits:
code:
 <______>
>______<
<______>
>______<
<______>
>___
_____
PP___

In other words, instead of a straight shaft, I had a zig-zagging path back and forth, the supposed idea being to make it harder to get about inside the fortress, so a partial security breach wouldn't rapidly escalate into a full security breach. Anyway, having breached the chambers, tentacle demons started spawning...in the corridor above, nowhere near the stairs. Maybe I'm just being naïve and demons start out stealthed; I've not encountered them before outside of goblin forts.

Edit: at least my dwarves killed one demon before they all bit it! And holy hell, having 125 insane humans, elves, and dwarves suddenly added to your unit list has a way of really nuking your framerate.

Demons are stealthed and you need to discover them to see.
