Closest near-death experiences
« on: October 26, 2011, 03:50:54 am »

We have all had that "WHOA! I JUST FAILED TO DIE!" moments, but recently I topped my list.

Swimming an ocean, I got a ton of lag and then...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

(note I was swimming from the east to the west.

Oh my lord. That's way more awesome than any near death I have had.

Got my nose taken by a roc once. I renamed my self, 'Voldemort'.

That is awesome.
I got my one legged one armed adventurer up against a roc.
I stab a wing, he then eats my leg, I collapse, the bird strikes again but I roll away... off a hill.
I'm stunned at the bottom for some time before awakening to find the roc passed out from pain, GOOD BYE BIRD'S HEAD.

I most likely misinterperted it all.I think they chopped my arms off(Why i couldn't use anything exept my legs)and they as a finishing move cut me in 2.
It's just that opon checking my body it said "his upper body is gone".So amazingly sorry for putting this here.
Seriously sorry.

I was sneaking around with my companions in a night creature lair. SOP is to start sneaking, gather everyone by the door, and then when the creature rushes past to engage the others I step to flank it and start attacking it from behind. Sometimes I get through the whole fight without being spotted, sometimes I get seen, sometimes right away. This was one of the latter occasions, and since I was pretty skilled I decided to fight instead of ducking around a corner. This turns out to be a bad idea, as it almost immediately grabs me by the throat and starts choking me. I pass out. Suddenly I regain consciousness and able to move again, I stagger back to create some space. But the creature is nowhere in sight, and I wander around the corner looking for it. Turns out my companions killed it while I was passed out. I have no idea how long it took or how it went down, as the log goes straight from 'The Bleak Creature strangles your throat!' to 'You regain consciousness.'. I'm quite glad anyway that they've gotten to the point where they no longer get butchered by random ambushes and need me to set them up by flooring an enemy. They've got full titles. It's pretty neat.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

My most interesting moment was when i decided to massacre an entire town during the night.
My fighting skills where huge because of my murdering of 90 people in their sleep.
Then the morning came and they woke up,i still proceded to murder about 20 more then i noticed that i only had my legs to wresle with.
I assumed my arms where just cut off and continued with my legchocking .
I later found out that my arms where not gone, but that my entire upper torso was gone and that my legs kept killing without my torso.
I died a little from bleeding a little later though but not before killing 6 more people with my thighs of steel.
I still died yes but a not dieing after losing your torso and becoming a pair of killing legs before finaaly dieing from bloodloss a little later counts as near-death to me.

what

but that's literally impossible

Your upper body is literally you

Like, your upper body being gone is literally what death is defined as in this game

same as sutremaine. I enter my first night creature's lair, it attacks me, rip my toe off, wound me at the hip (i still heve this f***ing hip muscle wound), and choke me. i pass out, and regain consciousness to find that my allies killed it.
Later on, i killed some more hulking horrors in one single axe sweep.  :P

I recently had an adventurer who survived two Mortal Wounds, due to those annoying bogeymen and their habit of biting and kicking her lungs. Both times she managed to kill her ambushers and carry a succesful adventurer life until the point she had to face a pair of vile horrors, one of which bited and ripped off her hand of disarming-and-eye-gouging. After killing the bastards I decided that she wasn't as interesting as before and killed her companions and suicided her. Could have simply retired and maybe faced her in a quest (her main objective was to kill a lady of one human civ, you know), though...

Once an archer got a lucky shot on my superhumanly tough and willed adventurer and he took an arrow to the throat... having lost a few people to this before at different times from the eventually blood-loss... I was rather surprised to find a few points in the recovery stat were well spent when he managed to stop bleeding at "Very pale" much later after the battle. I left the arrow in there. :D

Wow you are REAAAAAALLLLLY lucky there man, I bet that you survied because of the points you placed in recuperation AND the fact that the arrow got stuck in the wound, when you remove bolts/arrows that are stuck in you acchuly bleed a bit and I bet that if you did so that little bit of blood losewould have killed you.

I got shot. In the head. With an arrow.

Currently I was a legendary bow/swordelf, pitted against a grandmaster goblin bowman, my companions were busy in the melee with his companions, we were outnumbered but we were more skilled than they, needless to say the leader got a lucky hit to my head. I wonder how I lived as I returned fire, it cut out his right front tooth, next shot got his right hand leading him to drop his bow. I plucked the arrow out of my head [bleeding] and charged forward, dodging the other arrows/bolts heading my way then I speared it in his head.

After the fight where I lost about two out of my five men and women, I traveled back to the fort. Checking my injuries (in which I'd bet the head must have a scar or somewhat), there was nothing.

Very very strange, it did say in the combat log that I got hit in the head. Yet I lived and got my retribution.  :)

Well, one could edit the relevant creature raws to make the properties of the [UPPERBODY] and [LOWERBODY] tags irrelevant, but this would play merry hell with clothing and armour unless they were extensively rewritten.

I had my leg chopped off in Genesis as a Werewolf by a dirty bandit (which if you've played Genesis, you'd know that losing a limb usually means death by bleeding), then crawled away and somehow the dude hailing on me didn't kill me when I was crawling. Then eventually I stopped crawling, ripped off his phallus with my teeth and proceeded to bludgeon him to death with it.
