Let's Play Infinite Space! (DS) - We got Fightercraft!
« on: October 25, 2011, 10:51:33 pm »

Infinite Space is a space-themed RPG created by the suspiciously-named company Nude Maker. That alone might not make it stand out among the endless number of fantasy-themed games. Where it shines, however, is the real-time battles, huge list of characters (almost 100 crew members, not counting the insane number of supporting cast), many dozens of full 3D ship models (surprisingly well-detailed, for the DS), massive amounts of customization, and an epic story that covers two galaxies. It is also one of those rare games that you can tell the ratings board didn't cover very well; heads get blown off, eyes get stabbed, and people get DRUNK (with hi-larious consequences).

While the game was well received in Japan, western audiences got turned off by the sheer scale of the game and the admittedly somewhat cliched storyline, not to mention how difficult the battles can be (random encounters can kill you if you don't figure out the combat system quick). Personally, I enjoyed it very much, and was nearing the end of the game when I somehow lost my cartridge (  :'( ).

This will be a screenshot LP with LOADS of text. Keep in mind that this is a space opera inspired by stories from sci-fi giants like Clarke and Asimov. If you frequently visit the Something Awful LP forum, you'll probably recognize the practice of using cut-out heads to tell the dialogue, rather than full screenshots. This will PROBABLY NOT be a 100% run; in fact, getting 100% in a single game is pretty much impossible thanks to branching dialogue paths and the ability to pick different sides in different conflicts. Some optional crew members are pretty dang hard to recruit as well.

Audience participation is encouraged, mostly when it comes to decision making. If you have a creative streak and want to RP or whatever, that is fine as well - so long as it doesn't get out of hand.
One more thing: unless I spoil it first, this thread has a NO SPOILING policy. I'm guessing that quite a few readers have never even heard of this game, much less played it. Be kind and take any discussions about the ending or whatever to private messages. Hell, I don't even know how it ends.

And now...let's sail the sea of stars!

Definitely worth hearing more about.

Also, I only follow screenshot LPs.  So you're OK in my book.

EDIT: Hey Sirus, just noticed you're the OP.  Any chance of play-by-committee?

14 hell yeahs, not including my own? It's on, babies  8)
The first post shall be edited to have a more thorough introduction to the game, plus official rules of the thread, stuff like that.

@ EuchreJack: Hello again, yeoman! No committees this time, this game is much more story-driven than GalCiv. Things will be kept somewhat informal in regards to decision making.

This is a good game I'd say, but WHY ARE THE SOUND EFFECTS SO LOUD. with no sound options.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

((So, for whatever reason images aren't fully loading. Which is weird, because the image hoster displays them properly :/
I can fix them if people demand it))

Update 2: More Story! Still No Gameplay! Whoooo!

Welcome back to Infinite Space! Last time, we watched as Captain Badass took down a small battlefleet without breaking a sweat, while Nia got shot down by some of the weakest enemies in the game. Moving on!

Spoiler: Lift off! (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: A Mysterious Interlude (click to show/hide)

Ok, I'm calling this update quits for now. With luck, the next update will be shorter and yet contain more progress. There will still be plenty of dialogue, but more shit will blow up. A win-win in my mind!

Oh, and I'm looking for some sort of free image hosting that allows multiple uploads at once. I'm currently using TinyPic, which is a pain in the ass.
