What I mean is... Paranoia that players are meant to die as little as possible. Rather then avoiding death altogether.

"Rock falls you all die" is perfectly acceptible in Paranoia as are seemingly unwinnable situations that are in themselves puzzles for the players to think out.

For example What do you do if your given a mission by the computer and you are given several peices of equipment. You are told you must
1) Use all equipment efficiantly and effectively
and
2) You must return all equipment in the same condition they were given to you.

However among the objects you are given is trail mix and a hand grenade.

Yea we really need more gms.

I'd love to GM but I want to play a few games first to get a feel for it.

I can GM but it would be under the premise that I am still relearning how to GM and that I am absolutely vicious when it comes to running Paranoia and believe the game is about minimising death rather then eliminating it.

In otherwords I may be the wrong combination for a fun game.

Hmm my Paranoia book could be the wrong one... or the game is split over several books... I may have to update.

Still sounds like fun.

Okay after looking over my schedule, I will be running a one-shot paranoia game for newbies this Friday at 4:30pm EST (GMT-5) -ish.

Only thing players need to do in advance is run This(remember to check off custom name and fill in everything) and PM me a link to the .pdf file you'll get, so i can plan your secret missions in advance and so I know who will and will not be playing.

We will be using the Steam chat, as most everyone has it and I don't want to muck about with Jparanoia

Is this my first test? I don't want to be immediately terminated. Also, is there *ANY* chance it could be at 4:30PM EST? That's when I get home from work.

It is considerably less fun in practice... Hense why I have to relearn GMing.

I know that Paranoia has a lot of room to be unfair, unbalanced, and just flat out terrible... but it is always on the strain of the patience and humor of the players. So it would always have to be with a group that knows that the game CAN spiral out of control into a pile of suckyness.

yeah, 4: 30 will work. And don't worry, I only terminate you if your teammates provide a flimsy excuse. Which of course will not happen.

Drat. Still in school at that time. Too bad I am in Mountain (GMT -7 I think) time.

I wanted to at least watch a game.

Does Jpara/whatever you are using take transcripts? Might be difficult in such an information-control-based game... Each party sees something different.

There are two types of logs that JPar generates: RED clearance logs that show what goes on without private messages, and a UV clearance logs that include the PMs.

Excelent! A "true" log would be hard to follow (too many veiwpoints), but the hijinks in a "casual observer" log might be hard to understand. ("Wait, why did he just explode? Why is the sponge melting? Why did he just shoot his own pinkie off?")

Oh, and by the way, why does Bay12 fourms suppress the Firefox spellchecker? I can see errors but the rightclick menu doesn't show...

I'd be interested in joining in the game on Friday.

Question, though, what do we select for "Play Style" and "Stat Generation"?

I don't even know how stat gen works, I've never built any of the characters I've played.
