Hello~

I've been wanting to do a text/picture Let's Play for some time.

One problem, I'm not sure what game to pick. So I've raided my game collection and these are the games I believe that I could LP in the text and picture format and put the vote out to you!

Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura ~ Long game, but hey could be fun right?

Fallout ~ The original, love that game to death.

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri ~ I've never got the Alien Crossfire patch to work so vanilla gameplay I'm afraid.

Mechcommander 2 ~ Just picked up the game, never played it before so it'll be 100% blind for me.

Master of Orion 2 ~ What is there too say? Awesome

Voted Mechcommander 2 - but really, the Mechcommander Gold is a much better game, graphics aside! And its also freeware.  ;)

Nice, I heard that gold was better but will it work on a 64bit system? The first one doesn't :/

Just played it the day before yesterday(nostalgia evening), 64bit W7 and no tweaking whatsoever.

I'm interested in MC2, but I also wonder how well you can play MoO2.

I can beat the game on average with humans. Hard I have to either custom or play psilon.

At the moment it's very close, 6 for arcarnum, 5 for alpha centauri, mechcommander 2 and Master of Orion 2. Poor Fallout, only 1 vote XD

I'll leve it a little longer just to see if anything will level out or pull ahead of the competition.

(Apologise for double post)

WELL! It looks like Arcanum pulled in front!

Now for those who've not played this gem of a game, it's long. REALLY LOOOOOOONG game.

Also, whilst I muck about with getting the game options to a nice standard I'll pose you people another vote.

Magic or Technology?

Character Creation

When you click new game in the menu, then new character to instantly get dumped into character creation. Seeing as we'll be going with magic...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Silvia the elf! As you can see, elf gives us bonuses various bonuses and negitives. More importantly, +15% to Magickal skills and -2 ranks in all tech skills.

The next screen gives the character creation proper. The character skills! The attribute points on the left and skills on the right.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Given as we get 5 points to spend to improve anything, first a spell! Harm is the first low level damage spell (I think).

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Next, 2 points in doge and a point in bow!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The last point I put into Constitution as that goverens Fatigue primarily, casting spells drains fatigue so IT IS VERY IPORTANT FOR SPELL CASTERS!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Having spent all our points we then go onto a feature I REALLY like about Arcanums character creation, buying our starting equipment.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

=============

We are ready to start the game! I'll probably play through the first little bit for today, post it up and that will be it for today.

You find yourself aboard the IFS Zephyr, high above the Stonewall mountain range...

The Zephyr, a passenger Zeppelin. The ticket must have been expensive; the other passengers are all in formal dress and they are cared for in luxury on the flight. Waiters had out glasses of wine and other small nibbles to people milling around in groups or sunk into leather arm chairs.
   A shockwave sends people and objects flying to the ground, panic begins to set in as a distant roaring is heard. Two one manned flying machines race past a window, turn back and strafe the zeppelin again punching holes in the unarmed passenger carrier which quickly dips losing altitude.
   The two machines carelessly piloted, fly back for another pass. The leading machine scraps the zeppelins left propeller but manages to stay on course, its companion however collides with it and explodes. The remaining machine banks to hard and runs into the helium bag of the zeppelin, igniting its self and the passenger zeppelin on fire.
   Some where on the passenger deck of the zeppelin, a robed elf clings on for dear life as the Stonewall mountain range gets closer and closer…

===============

After the opening cutscene, we're greeted with another, WE SURVIVED THE ZEPPELIN CRASH :D! We pick our way through the burning wreckage and hear a voice calling for help. Pulling at the twisted metal plates we see a trapped gnome who begs us to deliver a ring to “the boy” saying that “he’ll know, what needs to be done”. He then blabbers something about him doing unspeakable evil and having to do what he was told, the work almost being completed and a very cryptic warning of impending doom.

And with that he breaths his last words. The sound of footsteps alerts us to an approaching figure! A robed man walks through the smoke towards us…

===============

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This guy, he blabbers on a lot before making ANY sense...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

After talking and finally snapping, he tells us he is Virgil a monk of the Panarii religion. A religion we apparently made? :O

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

After a lot of not making sense, we learn we are in fact a REINCARNATION of the creator of the Panarii religion. The "Living One" is prophisised thusly "The Living One will live again on wings of fire." Or reborn on wings of fire, he's not very clear.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Also, we're supposed to fight a great evil... how lovely. Though oddly, the scriptures say nothing of a dieing gnome and a ring so I guess they don't everything right do they? Virgil explains that there is an Altar, which will explain that passage clearer and that Elder Joachim, Virgils mentor, will explain the Panarii religion in greater detail. With that, Virgil joins our side.

After all that talking, there's a few things to do here at the crash site. After dispatching a few ailging wolfs we reach a cave entrance.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Dispatching a few rats we come to an odd scene. A spirit of a dead bandit stands before us.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

He explains he was cursed by an evil monk, his partner driven mad and killing him. Apparently killing the monk who cursed him will free his tormented soul, also he will tell us the location of a stash of riches. Why he was cursed and why the riches where stashed away he will not tell us, pleading that we free him from his torment.

Exiting the cave and heading north we see one of those strange flying machines, what's left of it anyway.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The body of an ogre lies in the wreckage, odd seeming as they could not of built such a machine though that explains why they destroyed them selves in the attack. The ogres face bears an odd mark and has a weird necklace... I think this will be important later.

Down in the south east we see a Kite Shaman guarding a chest! LOOTS!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

4 harm spells later, we loot his corpse to find a kite sword. The chest contains goodies too.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

All done! Heading south we come across the altar Virgil was talking about.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Sadly, that's all we get as there is still no information on the EVIL ONE!!!!!

Continuing on our way to shrouded hills we bump into another elf.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

HOW RUDE!

Harm spam latter, we find him carrying the same necklace as that ogre pilot! Something is a afoot!

We now have a choice.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Do we investigate Arbalah's house, the house pointed out by the tormented spirit? Or go to shrouded hills to elder Joachim who could shin some light on the situation.

==========================

Also, I've level'd twice so that's two points to spend on upgrades, what get?

Let's murder that elf.  Make him beg for mercy first, just in case he has anything vaguely important to say before we make his body rot from the inside out like the necromancer we are.
