Since it seems Shootandrun doesn't want to name it then the nation shall be called Prestinia.

To clarify this this aren't your standard we plunder and raid barbarian orcs. Their a Coalition of Clans similiar to Scottish Highlanders. They don't tend to raid at all...but more information on them later...

Shootandrun,micelius and sinpwn are accepted....

Edmus i would really like if you could revise that backstory...the part about being captain of the watch with 16 seems too far flung for a simple farmer boy...

Tersr i don't really know if that would be too overpowered...not feeling pain/or rather feeling pain like this seems to me a tad ridiculous

Writing up a bit of story about the Orcs. As your characters travel and learn more about the land, the Races and the History of this Kingdom the encyclopedia will steadily expand ;)

anyone seconding Prestinia? or got some other idea?

EDIT: Updated map, and information on Orcs...their pretty much a mix of American Natives and Highland People...

EDIT2:
Quote
Is it possible to be a dwarf or an orc or can we only be human?

dwarfs aren't possible but an orc would ...the dwarfs as far as you know for the moment have vanished into the depths...

Name: Kobal Greyhand( No relation, He was  only named after him)
Race: Orc
Looks: Average Orcish height, His black hair is tied in a ponytail. His skin is light jade.
Personality: He tends to keep to himself, but can be a strong leader at times. He prefers the company of books and tools rather than people
Backround: After spending his whole life on the reservation, he has seen the cruelty of the humans, and he has seen his people drown themselves in drink. He prefers to spend his time designing traps and mechanisms and reading whatever human books he can get through his connection to the human world, Marthas, a member of Grimgor’s watch. He has decent knowledge of human culture and wishes for the races to live in peace.

Then Kildaros it shall be and...you are in Ultra Valican

and with that we have enough people to start...

writing up intro now...

Jack Nilson

some people are unimaginative and boring. Sometimes this is because they are or sometimes it's because the places they live in are. Stone Quarry was such a place. Even it's name was unimaginative. Because that's what they did there, they produced marble. For adventorous people the wrong place to be as bandits thought the large Marble Shipments going to Kildaros ungainly to plunder and thus ignored them. For the people of Stone Quarry however this was a blessing, in comparison to other peoples in the Kingdom they were far wealthier as the growing capital had a never ending hunger for the Prized Stone Quarry Marble.

It is an utterly usual day for you, watching the workers carry their stones around, chatting with your comrades and generally doing nothing. The only diversion were the occasional bar fights during the nights and some minor pickpocketing when a travelling band of entertainers moved through the town.

Suddenly you hear cries from deeper down the Quarry. shouts of surprise, wonder and ...fear

Swanson

Fields was starving. It is now 1 month since the beginning of the Siege. Usually Fields would be used to it and prepared. In fact it had been prepared. Hadn't there been an contract from one of your "special customers". All went well you went in unseen, lit the granaries on fire and got out without a problem. Except for one: the Stonebarrows weren't your customers and patrolled evey exit to the town. Escape was not an option. You had hoped for Lord Fields to arrive with his host, but he was up in the North on some campaign against the Barbarians and it would take a while until he got message of the siege. First you went well, your bakery was flourishing due to your "special" meat pies but even special meat runs out sooner or later. Rat catching is no more an option as they have gone out 2 days ago.

But now you are out of "supplies" and need to get new ones. You yourself are getting hungrier by the hour and you run out of options. Either you get somebody off the streets, which would sooner or later catch the attention of the people or you try something...else entirely

Jamal

You stood over the bloody remains of Jaroslav Fields last of the line of the Fields family. he had followed you for more than two months and finally you managed to ambush his host. Among the dead is his personal guard and half his host. the other half, roughly 20 men are kneeling in front of you and the few men of your clan that survived the viscious battle. So few remained, so very prescious few able-bodied men. You are still not sure how many exactly as the thick fog hides some of them but it seems to be about a good dozen. And back at your camp another dozen with all your women, children and old people. Far too many to feed. You guess that you are 2 weeks of travel away from the nearest meeting hall too far for your half-starved, tired and desperate people.

Jarod

Ahhh...Kildaros. The Jewel of the Kingdom, delicate Marble Spires rising to the skies hidden behind 4 Rings of Granite Walls upon each could ride a whole Cavalry regiment a breast. It was massive, beautiful adn the greatest hell-hole of depravity and intrigues. You have taken up residence in some tavern in the second ring. "The Drunken Crow" is neither shabby nor noble in all ways pretty average, except that it's the best place to get a job as mercenary. The Barkeep Felix, had been the Captain of the Wolfcrow company one fo the most famous Mercenary groups in the Elder,Western and the New Kingdoms. He is one of the very few mercenaries who did his job long enough to get a fortune and could then retire. He opened up the tavern and used his old contacts attract mercenaries. This lad had the right job for everyone, and if he hadn't any than there was none. As you take a seat at a corner table you also notice an royal recruiter. They meant big business. The kingdom only hired men for contracts were it didn't dare to send their own in and they paid big...really big. And as big as the fortune was as big was the assosciate danger of the contract. Kingdom Contracts meant suicide missions. At a third table was some church official. They usually paid horribly and the jobs their offered were for the more desperate among your trade. It meant torture,witch-hunting, lynch justice and similiar...

Ultra Valican

Marthas leans back. The old fat guardsman is taking a deep puff of his pipe and letting out a content sigh.

"Argh...Orc despite all your misgivings and your primitivness you make the best tobacco i know."

he takes another deep puff and leans dangerously far back on his chair. Your chair groans in agony under the weight of it but you politely ignore that that fat bastard almost destroys your furniture.

"Ok...back to business theres a shipment of books coming up from Rabien. It seems to be some books from an Old Dwarfen Ruin and pretty valuable as it is heavily guarded. The problem is, the books are not for sale, they go directly to the Local Archons private library, so without a risk you won't get your hands on them..."

A disgusting grin spread on the fat guards face.

"Sorry but thats all i have this month...ah wait there IS something else some idiot just hit the tavern today. Says he is a Archeolo..Archiolo...some Treasure Hunter, said he had all kind of treasures with him. But was mostly crap and a bunch of Notes. Maybe you should check him out if yer desperate...thats all i have for you"

Name: Marley Jones.
Looks: Six foot tall, with a scarred face, He has a dark mess of hair and a almost constant grin, He looks like an utter mad man.
Personality: Erratic exterior but any that care to learn to know him find he thinks all his actions through.
He loves tales of magic but doesn't believe them, and is fascinated by other species.
He performs very poorly in social situations.
Back-story: Born far north to a guardsman, Jones spent his early life with his two sisters, his parents recognised a certain intellect at an early age and attempted getting him into school, but failed dismally to to lack of funds, Jones continued his simple life until the age of sixteen when he joined the guard, only to quit one week later and disappear, then return five weeks later with a livid scar over his face, he was never the same since that day, and none found out where he went.
He, for the next two years did all he could to learn to read and write and became a financial burden on his family.
Then one day, he was gone, the note he had left said he was to become a researcher/treasure hunter of ancient ruins, his family were slightly relieved.
He now searches ruins for knowledge and treasure, he rarely travels with company, and is armed with an ancient crossbow.
His only problem now is to find someone to buy his small horde of crap treasure and vast collection of notes.
He doesn't plan to return north.

Just so you know this guy went in search of treasure that first time only to find he couldn't read or write... or spot traps...
Since then he gives Dwarven ruins great caution and respect, rarely travelling deeper then a few dozen metres.

Hope this one is better.

Jack jumped up from his stool at the front gate, and ripped his spear from the stand beside him. Bad things rarely happend in Stone Quarry, but when they did it was bad, like last time when Farmer Bill decided that Renard was cheating him at cards that wasn't a pretty scene. He rushed down the slope towards the direction of the screams looking to see what was going on.

For 3 years and two months the Fields had troubles him; the lash, the blade, the stick. And now, they were all dead. All that remained were these pitiful soldiers...Perhaps they would serve-no they had enough mouths to feed and what trust could he put in those who served the Fields? They had marked his face with their symbol, and they would not be spared.

"Fieldsmen get no sympathy. Kill them all!"

At once his Clansmen obeyed and began the massacre.

"Take their equipment and rations. We'll need them to survive."

Kill all of them and take their equipment and food. Gather my people and scavenge along the way to the meeting hall. Raid farms if needed.

Jarod had three options. There was Felix, who had a job to offer at all times. On a nearby table he could see the royal recruiter. The Kingdom paid well, but the jobs they offered were dangerous. The church official near the royal recruiter was probably here because the Church needed a few men to do some dirty work, but he was not interested. He was a fighter, not one of the church's mad dogs. Now, he had to choose between Felix, or the Kingdom. Only a man extremely confident in his abilities would take a job from the Kingdom... And Jarod was like that.

He sat down in front of the royal recruiter.

"My name is Jarod." That should be enough to introduce him. He was well known in the city, and a royal recruiter should know about him. "I'm looking for a job as a mercenary."

Try to get a job from the Royal Recruiter.

Jack Nilson

[6] as you run towards the Quarry your comrades are following you, abandoning their posts at the gate. As you finally reach the Outer Parts of the Quarry you meet the Guard Captain and another half a dozen guardsmen.

The captains face was strained, next to him one of the Overseers was talking in a hurried hushed tone. "You say they uncovered what?"

he frantically repeated it. Without another word the captain commands you to follow him. The Man leads you deeper and deeper into the Quarry, finally reaching the lowest part. Were a group of about 10 men stood waiting, surprise in their faces. "Captain we did our job as normal and suddenly we broke through into this...this...vault. It looks like some old Dwarfen Hold or something. Old Ben went in but never came out and no one dared to look after his screams. I tell ya Deamons! Deamons are in there...they are going to kill us all!"

"Nonsense...i need 3 volunteers who look after Old Ben he propably just lost himself in there. The Rest goes home you are free for the day. Friedrich go and alarm the Lord. This is something he should see..."

Kobal

"You know that i can't do that, Kobal. No Orcs outside of the Reserve, except for trading purposes. [4] But I'll tell you what. I'll get him for you tomorrow, for another pipe full of that stuff."

The Next Morning

Marley Jones

"AND IF YE EVER DARE TER ENTER ME PUB AGAIN WITH YER SCRAP, I'LL TURN YER HIDE!"

as you struggle to pick up your belongings from the street before you, cursing the manners of the people in this town, a massive shadow looms over you. "OI, I've maybe got a customer for you"

Jamal

you scavenge throught he stuff of the Field's small host. They seemed to have been dangerously low on supplies themselves. No Wonder. After you killed most of the Fields the grandson of The Old Juri, went on a relentless hunt and chased you without pause. As you examine the soldeirs you realise with horror that they, were stick-thin and haggard. Some of them looked even worse than your men. Their food supplies only contain a few meager stretches of horse meat, propably taken from some of those they had ridden to death. All in all you find nothing more than half a days ration if you part it in equal parts among your  score of warriors and the about 50 women, children and old men.

As you ask your men if they know the surroundings one of them nods. [2] He tells you that you are at least a weeks ride away from the next farm, at least if hes correct, and your clan is completely on foot. However he also mentions taht somewhere west from here must be the ruins of the Cursed City. Maybe 3 or 4 days away. The 1 week to the next far was far too much for the children and some of the old people. On the other hand you don't have much options left aside from obvious suicide goign to the Cursed City or...no no no...for that you are not desperate enough....

Jarod

The man looks at you appraisingly, stroking his moustache all the while. After some moments he nods apparently content with what he sees and answers.

Aye, i have something for you. Some Orcs left the reserve and somehow managed to pass past the Throat. We need somebody to hunt them down. [6] you will not be alone. A group of 10 more, an Rabien translator and a witch hunter will accompany you. You'll get paid on delivery of their leaders head. [5] 250 Golden Heads are in for it.

a truly magnificent sum. With such a sum of Heads (named after the heads of kings on the coins) you could easily open your own tavern. Or start a new company.

Swanson

[2] As you look around you can't find anybody who wouldn't be noticed at the moment. A siege is sometimes boring and people get to know each other after a time. And up to now the spirits where to hight to let large fights break out...maybe you should turn to another source...
