We DO need a dining room.
Why, what happened to the one I designated and put in a waterfall chute for?

The ringing of stone echoes through the cavern. The newly established stonecutters guild, lead by GreatWyrmGold...
Wait, Stonecutters guild?
"Who keeps Boatmurdered off the maps?" "Who keeps the demons under wraps?" "WE DO! WE DO!"
(etc)
(I wonder if anyone will get the reference...)

ATTN: Commander: "Inn of Drowning"

Some concerns have been raised in regard to the recently constructed water trap at your settlement.  Informants will remain anonymous but many fortresses have been lost to such devices, which is why regulations were put in place by her majesty the Queen.  We do not dispute the right of dwarves to build such devices, but the disregard for safety so common among our people can result in catastrophic failure.  Such failures not only endanger the security of the fort, but can render entire systems of tunnels unusable.

As such, you may expect an inspector from the newly-commissioned Dwarvern Safety and Health Administration, DSHA, on the first of Granite.  Although danger of flooding is the primary concern, his visit will occasion a General On-site Occupational Safety Inspection and Enhancement, or GOOSIE.  Should any aspect of your settlement be found lacking, your DSHA inspector is hereby authorized to take command for up to one year.  Upon the First of Granite of the following year, further safety notes will be provided to a replacement commander from your own settlement.  Safety first, compliance is mandatory.

Baron Urist MacBewrokrat
Chief Administrating Officer, DSHA
Licensed Death-Trap Inspector
Member: Stonecutter's Guild

Huh, my forts never get DSHA visits, and I build rooms whose sole purpose is to drown dwarves...

-----

If the question's still open and no one minds how long I take, I can do a few months at least...until someone else decides to take a standard three-day turn.

You can never have too many legendary, uniquely designed dining rooms. And I totally meant the stonecutter's reference--I made you leader because you were the best stone worker around. Take as long as you want! Be warned though: Ajr left his turn with an awesome design that in no way meets DSHA safety standards.

Love what you guys are doing! I'd join but I'm still relatively new to DF, I have no idea what you do with power, didn't know guilds were in DF, and I don't think my dinky netbook can handle the epicness of this... It already lags with one of my other maps thats not even a 1/4th of the size of waht your guys are doing, so I'll follow and until I get a new laptop and understand more what you guys are doing, I'll keep in otuch and probably take a turn eventually, even though it'll be my first Sucession Game :-[

Also I have no idea what "native" or "vanilla" mod is, and I'm not sure if I'll have to download a whole different version of DF since I'm using Ironhand graphics :-\

Hey well if it helps "vanilla" just means no mods added, pure unmodified dwarf fortress; we also seems to have issues with knowing what we with power (see: the Array, the (non)Drowner); and the guilds thing is strictly speaking a large housing area designated to house only stoneworkers, with a small dining room and two special mason shops only permitted to skilled masons and behind them a quantum rockpile (the secret of the stonecutters).  I also made a burrow there and named it "stonecutter's guild", despite it being only marginally defensible, if decent for a last stand. And it was my first succession game too:)

Just take it: the roster is open, ajr hung up a save; it's yours.  Be warned, there are...difficulties...with the dining room.

Alright then, I'll get the map and see if my laptop can run it without major issues... If it doesn't, I'll gladly sign up for 21st or 26th, depending on worktimes, etc. I'll probably blitz through since my classes atm have a very high lack of homework (which means more DF time!) and I'm donig quite well atm with my own map with LOTS of adamantine without hitting HFS, so I'll probably be going in there and mashing up some anti-"fun" stuff, and first 5 pages of reading this and I'm hooked, I'm hopnig to see this through to the end! (it'll definatley be my first time going into a cavern without locking it back up immediatley if I join up, let alone colonizing it)

I want a dwarf, if that's possible. call him Zeta, Metal worker or Stone worker (pretty sure you've got plenty to spare right?) and after he makes an artifact send him off to war! (ok i'll keep an eye on this thread to see how my dwarf is going)

Posting to watch! I'll take a turn if it's lagging, but mostly I am waiting to see how long it takes for you to run this completely into the ground.  There is something seriously wrong with this fortress...
