I don't see any space, but if you had a place in mind, do say.

How in the world would an enemy side step? A habitat surely won't have such great of a maneuvering advantage that they'd be able to pilot circles around us. I mean, sure, you're just using symbols, but what do they symbolize?

Where are we going to get that much metal to be able to redesign the whole habitat? It's ridiculous to think it'll just be an easy fix. Additionally, even on MP there aren't the right facilities to research the metal foam, and it, frankly, seems a bit ridiculous.

At the very least, don't shred them, I'll use them. (Don't ask how.)

This is such an annoying statement, people don't just keep stuff because they think they'll be useful in the future for some nebulous reason. Hoarders do that, and where would we put the treads? Better to use them now, whether for replacing or augmenting what we have now.

Areyoua's right. We can't go out on a limb here.

I don't know about you, but I RP as if I'm actually there. Therefore, if I was there, I'd NOT hoard things and I'd scrap whatever I can to get the hab running considering our very lives depend on it.

Who says that MP doesn't have the facilities? If I recall correctly, that bad-facility research was done on the way back to MP, not at MP.

As for where the metal is coming from, let me think...

Oh yeah, a complete overhaul means stripping out every wall, I think that provides the required metal. Also, consider that the new armor doubles our metal supplies with regards to construction of habitat walls, and possibly more.

Also, I say don't shred them because if we end up not using them for Hope I know a way to build another engine (possibly) and I could build a "Shuttle" for Hope.

If you don't believe me, ask the GM.

I fell like I'm playing poker, but having all the rules change on the fly.

Of course, it's nice to be able to consult the GM whenever you want, but it would be a lot nicer if you would throw your information out at the beginning. It's also rather annoying to have to ask you what you want to do with something when the logical course of action would to just say it.

Alas, you did it again when you didn't tell us how you would make the engine for the shuttle...

Stripping out all the walls means either not fixing the roof, or taking apart our farms, and to think that we could recycle 100% of the metal from the walls is, I think, rather too hopeful.

The plan isn't important, as WE are supposed to come up with the plan. All Pyro did was take initiative and contact the GM privately, as we would do anyway via PM, and discuss his idea. If the Gm accepts it, it goes into play. That's how its always worked o_O Nothing here is planned, really. Its all made up as we go, haha.

Same with my RP. I'm writing out all that complicated technology and backstory as I go, making it up on the spot to fill in the gaps.

If you read my entire argument, you'd have seen this and yours would have been a moot point.

And, as for not putting information up-front, I'm chatting real-time. It changes on the fly too. I only asked about building engines very late in this discussion. (Here's how: Scarcium, which I may be able to extract from Old Tech. Now, there are Old Tech drones buzzing around us every now and then, then short-circuiting and falling into our possession.)

Unfortunately, it does matter. Ash has given him Captaincy. His word matters quite a bit.

Ok, can you guys stop arguing a sec, put together a list of maybe 12-20 bullet point questions that are easy to understand and then I'll answer them

This is kind of funny, as it's the only reason that I've any power at all. I don't rule because I'm better, nor because I'm particularly well-liked. I'm leader because the GM says so ;D. That being said, I'm fine stepping out of power, as long as we've a popularly elected leader.

How much does it cost to refit the Habitat with metal foam?

How much do we get back from tearing down all the walls of hope?

How long will it take to research metal foam?

How much does it cost to put the farms back up and expand the habitat after the rebuilding?

How much does it cost to put up a shuttle?

What are the benefits of wheels?
What are the benefits  of tracks?
What are the downsides of wheels?
What are the downsides of tracks?
How much material can we salvage from Hope?
Does MP have the proper facilities for MF research?
Can I extract Scarcium from those pesky drones?
Can I build an engine with said Scarcium?

(I'd put myself up for election as leader.)

Ninja-Edit: GM permission to give you guys my wheels vs treads rundown.

I'd vote for Pyro as leader, because I can influence his decisions with my psy- he is a good, level-headed man and worthy of our admiration and respect. Ahem.

Wheels vs treads/tracks. Wheels are made for smooth-traction surfaces like asphalt that provide enough friction to stabilize during and after acceleration while allowing enough inertial potential for the vehicle not to stall nor veer out of control. Not too little, not too much. Perfection. The problem while standard wheels, as anyone who's driven in snow, sleet, sand or mud can attest, is that grainy particles, inconsistent terrain or moisture tends to either grind wheels to a halt due to excessive friction or cause wheels to spin wildly out of control due to not enough friction. Either situation is very bad in a gun-fight with high-explosives where you do NOT want to lose control of the habitat nor have it randomly stop in the middle of your enemy's gunsights.

Treads/tracks on the other hand are more suitable for larger vehicles, such as our very own monumental habitat vehicle; easily outclassing any 21st century war tank in sheer size and weight. For one to move such a significant mass across any feasible distance over undoubtedly rough post-apocalyptic terrain no one has handled in decades or centuries, one much utilize a system of movement that is consistent with the harsh conditions faced by the very vehicle being utilized.

Now,  do you honestly believe a wheel 1/30th or so the size of a massive hulking pile of steel will allow you to safely, quickly, and effectively move over dirt, sand, stone, pebbles, rain, snow, mud, and gods know what else we're encountering in our world? Do you honestly think you can design an effective basic axle-and-wheel system robust enough to support the indecipherable amount of weight our habitat possesses? Just think if each Pixel is man-sized, just how utterly massive the habitat must be...

I do believe our best choice here, if we are to remain within the realm of sanity or have any chance of travel mobility, will be to design a proper tank track system, like those used in...

PANZER ATTAAAAAAAAAAAAACK

...Ahem... Sorry about that.

Anyway, we must utilize a proper tank-like track system that will COMBINE the speed and utility of the common wheel with the terrain stability advantage of treads in order to outmaneuver and outclass our enemies. We simply cannot expect to feasibly counter an enemy threat when even a medium-sized stone could damage our vehicle's wheels beyond use. Tank treads? Roll right over the biggest stones, through a ditch, over glass, metal scraps and sand. Everything.

I think you all know who the clear victor in this debate is.

TANK TRACKS FOR 2314.

If you were to rebuild exactly as it is 14 metal

Quote
How much do we get back from tearing down all the walls of hope?
How much material can we salvage from Hope?
21 metal for structural, if you do everything and have nothing left 27

Quote
How long will it take to research metal foam?
10 days for 1 scientist, but you require Machu Pichu's engine room for this which is inaccessible for 3 days unless your either Bill or Jack

Quote
How much does it cost to put the farms back up and expand the habitat after the rebuilding?
2 metal

Quote
How much does it cost to put up a shuttle?
Too rent one from Machu Pichu? You'd probably have to pay 30 coins a day

Better fuel efficiency and easier to build

Does MP have the proper facilities for MF research?
Yes, but you can get better faster results elsewhere, currently your using the engine room and tools they supposedly keep there

Quote
Can I extract Scarcium from those pesky drones?
You'll have to try if you want the answer to this

Quote
Can I build an engine with said Scarcium?
No but Adwarf could if he had access to a large forge (MP doesn't)

Okay, let's tear Hope apart, nothing left, once we've finished MF research.

We'll decide what to do from there.

Shoot, since Hope is being ripped to shreds, id say you guys should decide on a new and improved design. And while the engine is out, that could be the perfect time to upgrade it if you have the materials. (I really regret not getting into this specific pixel game.)

If you need Scarcium for upgrading stuff, Adwarf, I'm fairly sure that those Oldtech drones might have some.

And it would be good if you could upgrade the engine. Since some complain of fuel use.
