Do the Soundtrack Fandango
« on: October 21, 2011, 03:38:59 pm »

I'm not quite sure whether this should go here or in Forum Games, but since it's DF-specific it seems to fit. Also, I did a bit of searching, and found a few discussions of music to play by, but not in this exact format, so hopefully it counts as fresh ground. ^.^

Also also, I totally stole this idea from an old RPG.net Exalted thread. There are many fine parallels, I think!

Anyhoo, here's the gist: post a link to a song. The next poster describes what situation in Dwarf Fortress the song is the background music for, and posts a new song. Repeat ad aweseum!

A most auspicious beginning.

^ I'd say Adventure mode, it's nighttime and you're fighting off hordes of Boogeymen while running for your life towards a building to get inside.

You are the militia commander standing on the above ground fortifications of you mountain home.
You are about to die horrible after insulting your Dwarven god of thunder, earthquakes and childbirth.

A full-scale goblin invasion barrels towards the fortress gates as the defenders man the ramparts, load ballistae and prepare to "unleash da secret weapon!"

And now for something completely different.

I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.

The "Oooh, shiny!" "RUN!!!"  "Ooooh, shiney!"  "RUN!!!!" "I see dead people" cycle during a goblin ambush when you haven't set your burrows.

A lone adventurer engaged in a brutal battle with a titan. Bloodied, broken, and bruised, the adventurer slices off the titan's limbs one-by-one until it lay immobile, awaiting the final blow!

(We're back, baby!)

^An adventurer walks through a town in a civilization where he is public enemy number one. The townsfolk shutter their windows and bar their doors, while the adventurer engages the town militia, tearing through them one by one.
