....What makes you think they're related?

Well, when then boy dorf makes baby with the girl dorfs, then the same thing happens with the next generation, that is what's called incest (or as 4chan calls it, wincest).

Migrants will make the gene pool a lot deeper.

I've also read (but haven't tested) that dwarves won't inbreed.
Edit: I can't recall who posted it, but I do recall that it was someone that is usually reliable.

Have them killed. Nothing solves a problem quite as effectively as simply having it killed.

Sorry to rain on the incest parade, but the arrival of migrants will probably fuck that up.

However, if your very first fort actually survives long enough for the second generation to enter adulthood, i shall be very impressed.

EDIT: Damn, khearn beat me to it.

Nobody makes their first fort.

My first fort got to 75 dwarves before I realized that my architecture was rather bad which led to me moving on to a new one.

1. Forbid migrants past the second wave
2. Make a safe fortress with lots of food and booze
3. Wait 50 years
4. ? ? ?
5. Profit!

Oh yeah, that's actually true. If they have mother/father/son/daughter, and I think aunt/uncle, they can't get married, and they won't breed unless they're married. Such chaste little fellows, no?

Of course, that isn't to say that they won't have... ‼fun‼...

1) dig a place for your dorfs to hide, that also has room to store at least the food
2) dig either a surrounding channel or build a wall (don't forget to remove the resulting ramps if digging) to protect this place
3a) get a small farm going (three or four 1x3 farm plots will be plenty)
3b) while working on three, build a wood stockpile and a refuse pile above ground (preferable inside the moat/wall)
4a) look for military grade metals to mine/smelt/forge
4b) build some necessary workshops (b -> w) : a still (l), craftshop (r), carpenter (c) and mason (m).  you may need others, but you'll want/need these first typically
4c) build 5 to 10 beds/chairs/tables/doors, and lots of stone crafts to trade for useful materials
5) build from there as needed.

I'm sure there are little nitpicky differences of opinion, but generally the above will get you through the first winter, and possibly farther if you don't have too much !!fun!!. :D

make a custom stockpile (p > c, designate stockpile area), then set it to accept everything but wood, stone, refuse and corpses (q > select stockpile > s > pick what gets accepted (highlighted)). the dwarves will haul everything in eventually assuming teh stockpile is big enough.
