Dwarfs can't interact with animals. Help!
« on: October 19, 2011, 02:42:11 pm »

So I would like to have a nice milk and yarn industry, and train hunting dogs etc. But whenever my dwarves go to the workshop to do these things, they cancel the order and say no animals are available. Even when I have the workshop in the middle of a pasture. Any fixes?

Where are your animals, and what are they doing? Are you sure they're milkable (i.e. the right species and female)?

Do you have a...

1. Empty Bucket?

2. Empty Barrel?

3. Female animal?

4. Milkable, non-pet animal?

5. Shearable animal?

Also, if an animal is pastured and a dwarf takes it to another area, some other passing dwarf will notice that it isn't in its pasture and say "Well this isn't right...", then promptly take it from the working dwarf and back to the pasture. Sometimes the other dwarf will say "hey, what happened to that animal I was just pulling on?", then notice it a ways behind him. "There it is!" he will say, and will begin pulling it again.

I'm pretty sure Toady fixed that bug back in version 0.31.20...

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
