He keeps moving back and forth 2-3 steps towards the soap and then back. I havent figured out if he actually USES it. He is also missing one hand.

Frankly this guy has caused me NO END OF GRIEF.

1) he refuses to pick up or use any weapons, claiming to be too injured
2) I shot him with lead ballista arrows to kill him, but once he went prone the ballistae arrows kept missing him and he was promptly sent to the hospital
3) once recovered, he still uselessily refuses to do any jobs or carry a single weapon

4) My latest idea for him becoming useful was placing him near the adamintine dig site to keep zombie giant rats and zombie crundles away

BUT NOW HES OBSESSING WITH THIS SOAPPPPPP

Is there any way for me to edit him to regain his hand? How do I deal with this would-be-pirateer?

Try Runesmith. It has a lot of tick-boxes for various things to be done upon your minions or any creature you feel like editing. Pretty sure full heal or outright killing is on the list of things you can do.

Look a little bit better.

I think it's right under the tab, named "flags".
Death is a flag for example and you can turn it on/off.

Got no idea if you can actually manipulate injuries tho

You could assign him to cleaning duties. I assure you, he will be just as effective as the rest of your cleaners.

Actually, it's not so much engraving as it is etching. Dwarven urine is very acidic.
