Is that a live fox, or a bunch of stuffed ones?
Actually, it's just Chuck Testa.
What?  You knew it was coming.

Actually, I was rather hoping for it.

It's really funny watching them do unnecessary surgery because of a wrong diagnosis.
the conditions were bad enough to turn a dwarf who didn't care about anything mad, that's pretty hardcore.

That tongue is gigantic.

Anyway, my fortress mindset?

1. Gee, what a nice place. I always knew I was smart enough to play the Fortress Defence Mod in a terrifying biome!
2. Okay, settling in...
3. Gotta get this fortress bustling.
4. Oh look, snatchers. I suppose I better build traps...
5. A siege? This early? OH CHRIST THERE ARE SO MANY OF THEM.
6. OH MY GOD I ACTUALLY WON.
7. FUCKING DOUBLE TIME, DEFENCE AND A PROPER ARMY.
8. First actual threat enemy comes.
9. AGhGGHHGH-
10. Your fortress has crumbled to its end.

"Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." Is kind of the opposite of what I think when building my fortresses. If those little buggers rise after they fall then either the pit wasn't deep enough, or the fall wasn't nearly glorious enough. Take those as literally or as figuratively as you'd like.

I hope you don't mind, but this belongs in my sig. For the sheer awesomeness of it.

EDIT: To stay on topic:

Usually the second one.

HEY! Traveling backwards in time is not allowed until I figure out how to do it!

Also, I did an ironhand version of my project (due tomorrow), if anyone wants to see it.

This seems about right.

The animation starts at the beginning of my fortress.

Middle is about when I breach the caverns.

The end is when the first gobbo ambush shows up.

Seriously, foxes make several noises but this is the loudest one.  Fox howls are considerably more adorable than wolf howl~  And that about sums up my immediate reaction to any event that causes a pause.  "The liaison has arrived!" "HAAAGH!"  "An ambush, curse them!" "HAAGH!"  "Urist McNobodyCares has given birth to a resource hole!" "HAAAAAGH!"

Then I start getting pumped for all the bloody shenanigans that I'm about to get into, and it turns into this:

And then eventually, I start getting bored, which leads to one of these:

Either way, I eventually end up at one of these:

replace the "Great Radiator" with MAGMA (basicly all refrences to the sun are secretly refrences to magma).

Mindset?

Well .. I check the personalities of the starting dwarves and make a decision after that.
Last time my expedition leader was extremely selfish and closed to input. So she became ruler of the fort with an iron fist. What did she lust for? Metals. Beautiful metals.

There wasn't a single metal on the whole map though. Except for cotton candy... which I mined, as I mentioned, without any real metal equipment.

 Did not end well.
