I still long for the day when artifacts start doing "weird" things.

On that note, I'm surprised he didn't use any Nether-cap for his barrel. Then it could be a proper booze chilling device.

Well I wouldn't call them useless because of the simple fact that unless possessed the maker gets 20K exp. In this case it was a 3year old that got it. So I have a legendary stonecarver which I won't get an investment back on for 9 years. By which I either won't have a fortress, or I will have so many legendary dwarfs it won't matter. It's just always nice to get a legendary stonecarver in the first year because then you can have whatever you want from caravans. Anvils/Metals/drink/food etc. whatever you need. This one was just pointless.

And mixed blessing? more wealth leads to more Fun.

Plus, if you ever find it in adventure mode, you can smash people in the face with it.

Now I want the save file, so I can figure out a way to mod myself a gorilla adventurer and carry that thing around.

I think buildings made with artifacts can be destroyed, it's just that the artifact used won't be destroyed.  A building destroyer might rip an artifact statue from its base, deconstructing the statue building, but the statue item (the artifact itself) cannot degrade or take damage.
