Immortal(ish) dwarf?
« on: October 17, 2011, 07:32:35 pm »

So my fortress was overrun with clowns, and everyone died except one dwarven child. He is currently paralyzed, badly torn apart and sprawled on the floor of the kitchens. However, he's not dying. The clowns are leaving him alone, and it's been half a year and he's not even classed as hungry, thirsty or tired. He's not bled out either. Looking at his wounds, most of his internal organs are pretty screwed over, and his spine is broken in multiple places. Could it be that having your digestive system destroyed and surviving makes you immune to hunger/thirst?

It's spite.  The most powerful life force in the known world, spite alone keeps him alive...

Is he the final survivor?  Are you otherwise crumbled to your end except for this poor child?

Yup. Kinda annoying, I was hoping to get a chance to throw the killswitch and flood the entire fortress, but alas. I'm going to wait until the human and dwarf caravans show up, their guards might do something to the clown brigade. Also, do migrants appear once you've met the circus?

They should, I've had migrants walk through the middle of a seige. Unholy beasts from the underworld just can't be as bad as evil, tower-dwelling Greenskins, can they?

Awesome. If I could drag this fortress back from the edge, I will be hugely proud.

If you have any capacity to wall off the fort, then lock the demons in and build another fort atop of it.  That's the dwarfy thing to do.  You lost a fort?  Build another one on top!  Then try and reclaim the lost town...

We don't go there anymore.

Yup, I can confirm this.  You still get migrants as you normally would.

Unfortunately I went a couple of seasons with no migrants. Perhaps the word of sudden horrible slaughter got out and the other dwarves were too scared to come? Can this kind of thing influence migrants? Going to revisit in adventure mode, I will report back :P

Well losing a whole lot of dwarves in a short period of time can influence migrant waves.
Although you'd see an announcement about either 'some dwarves daring to risk the journey despite knowing that the fort might be their tomb' or 'no migrant wished to come to such a deathtrap', or something along those exact lines.

If you never saw any migrant-related announcements, then you unfortunately were passing through seasons when migrants weren't travelling to your fort anyway.

I did get migrant messages, but it was the usual "your fortress attracted no migrants this season".

Hmm. Maybe they would have gotten the news after a caravan visited your site then?
Oh well.

Migrants seem to be based on how much you're exporting and how many dwarves die in a short period of time, I THINK.

Migrants are also delayed slightly.  The waves might begin anew in 2-3 seasons.
