Odd magma aqueduct behavior
« on: February 06, 2007, 07:22:00 pm »

I built a channel from the magma to the outside world using green glass blocks to construct my aqueducts.  I had read that it was only necessary to use steel to cross the magma.

Anyway, here's my setup:

Q = aQueduct
X = floodgate
_ = channel
~ = magma
# = chasm
W = wall

code:

W  #####   W
W  #####   W
 QQQQQQQ  W
_QQQQQQQ_ WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW~~~
_QQQQQQQ_                         WW~~~
__ ##### __________________________XX~~~
  #####                           WW~~~
W  #####   WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW~~~
W  #####   WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW~~~

The reason for the double floodgates is I originally flooded that entire hallway with magma, no channel, to nuke the chasm.

I forgot aqueducts can only be odd numbers of digits wide, and the space I originally prepared had six spaces between the channels, so I had to offset the aqueduct to the north and make a new space for it.

So here's what happened.  I pulled my lever to flood the channel, then went off to look at something else.  When I came back, I saw that my aqueduct had been disassembled, and the magma was disappearing, working its way back toward the magma flow.

Anyway, I had apparently misunderstood the "You don't have to use steel to carry magma" thing, which is fine, but the behavior I found to be unusual was the way that after destroying my aqueduct the magma flowed back to the magma flow instead of continuing to flood the channel.

Sorry about not using CODE tags; won't happen again.

I used a stone aqueduct with no issue.
Might be that glass does melt.

I've read that a destroyed aqueduct causes an unflood.

There are a lot of problems with aqueducts/door/bridges and erroneous floods/anti-floods.  It's due for an overhaul at some point.
