I have a legit Steam version. I'm still unsure what was the issue. My connection isn't all that great, but it should be much more than enough for EU3.

If I was the only one having problems, I would quickly assume my computer was the cause. It's a 7 years old piece of crap no longer worth calling a computer. It, theoretically, shouldn't be able to run the game. Although it actually runs smoothly in SP. I still think the box of wires which I call my computer was the, or part of the problem

It might be. Both Zrk and I are in NA, but we weren't the only NA players (can't remember who else).

well my pc is getting kinda old now, though i don't really know exactly how old :p but it runs fine after i formatted the HDD and installed windows 7

its a q6600 though, so yeah...

I don't think the distance was the problem; I'm American too and had zero problems. I think it may have been a connection issue or possibly zrk and alex have some ISP which has a hatred of certain things for no reason.
Anyway, I can't wait for Grantyman to come back to a massive england which accomplished more than he probably would have and then realize that all of europe is about to murder him because of excommunication.

Just try to pull it through, who knows what happens. You can always get yourself a different country if you go to hell prematurely.

Just pump out more ships, you should be able to keep most at bay that way. Then pay them off after they spend several years at war while achieving nothing. War exhaustion is your friend.

nobody really has a fleet that can take on england's at this point. of course, that doesnt matter if you're distracted by that 1 carrack in the north sea while everyone and their mother lands troops from the Atlantic

That describes me, and I had no problems at all save for the checksum issue at the start.

EDIT: To clarify I do own a legit copy, but the version I reinstalled wasn't because that was faster.
