Tantrum spiral inc. or, weaponizing insanity.
« on: October 15, 2011, 01:36:51 pm »

I just had a mishap from construction breach a pressurized magma pipe, flooding the dining hall and bedrooms, killing 197 dwarves in the span of 5 minutes.

The remaining 63 are all at 0 happiness despite the magma being sealed off.

A legendary +5 miner just went berserk...
and a gremlin just pulled the lever to turn the magma pumps back on.

Also, a vile force of darkness has arrived.  I'm not sure if I should bother closing the gates or not.

This is going to be !!FUN!!.

EDIT:  Also, my wood stockpile is on fire again.  So is the ale stockpile.

EDIT2:  The berserk miner killed an entire goblin siege.

It was epic.

The Miner glares at Urist's upper body and it sails off in an arc!

And that's how powerful berserk miners are.

Yep.

Three dwarves left, one stark raving mad the other throwing a tantrum, plus the berserk miner who single handedly killed the goblin siege and most of the rest of the fortress.  He was "Accidentally" crushed by a drawbridge as he was running back in the fortress.

I think you just weaponised insanity. Awesome.

Why yes, I think I did.

Oh look, the stark raving mad dwarf has died of thirst.

So did the last dwarf.

In order to truly weaponize this, we must:

1.
Raise legendary miner(s), ensuring that no one else in the fortress gains an emotional connection with them.

2.
Make the legendary miner(s) go berserk.

3.
Capture said miner in a cage.  (I had a hard time not writing "profit!".)

4.
Unleash said miner(s) on sieges.

5.
Sit back and watch the fun.

6.
Report the results (here?).

1. Make a danger room with food available via airlock. The danger room is to train the dwarves in whatever weapon you give them.

2. When a useless migrant comes, immediately burrow him into the danger room.

3. Equip weapon, in this case a pick. (you still wrote profit anyway)

4. Danger room train the dwarf to legendary in fighting skills.

5. Once legendary, make a cage trap outside of the danger room airlock.

6. Assign an assload of war/hunting dogs to the miner in question.

7. Murder all of them via spike impalement, drawbridge, or other slaughter of choice.

8. Hope for berserk miner. He will be very unhappy, so three flavors of insanity are possible, as there is a luck factor involved.

9. Once berserk, he should starting breaking his way out of the danger room. This is good.

10. If you've designed the training pit properly, he should be forced to run into the cage trap on his way to cause mayhem and destruction.

11. Now that you have a caged lunatic of murderous intent and capability, transport the cage outside, where goblins will approach it.

12. Hook up the cage to a lever, so that when the Vile Force of Darkness arrives, you can seal your defenses and release the caged demon.

13. UNLEASH THE BEAST.

14. Once carnage is complete, open defenses to lure the survivor(s) into cage or weapon traps.

DWARF BONUS:
Clad the berserker in high quality armor and make the weapon at least exceptional.

MEGADWARF BONUS:
Make his equipment steel, with the weapon itself coated in forgotten beast extract if possible.

ULTRADWARF BONUS:
Candy everything. Except the danger room itself.

We shall call these berserkers... the Bagorn. Dwarves with the mind of a angry beast and the body that has spent 50+ years moving large rocks. Fear them.

12. Hook up the cage to a lever, so that when the Vile Force of Darkness arrives, you can seal your defenses and release the caged demon.

In this case an automated system would be better, and perhaps even dwarfier. Use pressure plates.

Candy everything. Including the danger room itself. If the subject dies, get a new one.

SUPERULTRADWARF BONUS++:
Set the Bagorn on fire.

If you made a glass "sacrificial chamber" In the dining room that you could warren unwanted dwarves and pour magma into, you could make a tantrum spiral generator.

That, or a fortress immune to tantrums due to hardening.
