Too injured
« on: October 13, 2011, 06:32:44 pm »

Erush Dumatokil is too injured. Too injured to pick anything up, and too injured to stop spamming me with 1000 messages of how injured he is.

How injured is too injured for Erush Dumatokil? He's missing his lefthand. Also his upper right shoulder is "dented".

Is there any way besides having him killed that can do something for him? He refuses to rest.

Build a hospital, using I to designate it a hospital. Chief medical dwarf, some soap, suturer. People automatically haul patients to the bed and force them to sleep, they will also feed and water them. Occasionally everything is higher priority and your dorf will bleed to death where he lays. Or starve.

I got a hospital, but hes not going to it. I've disabled all labours for him and retired him from the military by making him inactive.

I've read about an armless, legless dwarf biting the head off a FB. Erush is just after attention.

Re-injure him.  Order him to pull a lever that causes a cave-in beside him.  Then send him to your resident Dr. Frankenstein!

You do have an empty bed within the hospital for him, right?

Dwarves will occasionally sleep in the hospital and take up all of the beds rather than go to a bedroom or dorm.

Also, what was he trying to pick up? You might try forbidding the object in question so that he'll cancel the job because the item is lost/inaccessible and go on to his next task.

Dwarves are stubborn sometimes. I had a miner who had a horrible injury in a cave-in accident and he walked around still mining while basically dragging his limp left arm behind him. Hurt him again via Girlinhat's method.

Probably not applicable to this case, but sometimes the problem is your hospital lacks a traction bench (table+mechanism+rope/chain) upon which the injured dwarf can be immobilized while he heals.  Without the traction bench the little drunkard wanders off (or, tries to, anyway) and tries to work, when he can't actually do anything until after he heals.

You can also check his health record to look for clues as to what he might need.

"This man is too injured!"
"Well, then you need to hurt him some more."

And this response is totally logical.  I think Dwarf Fortress gained [PREFSTRING: insanity] somewhere along the line.

I remember when Traction Benches were bugged and the 'fix' was to just put a table next to the bed.  Is that bug now fixed?  Is there any reason to put a plain table next to the beds still, or should they all be Traction Benches now?

That wasn't the issue.  The problem was very similar to pastured animals and milking labor.  The doctor will go pick up a patient from the bed and bring him to the table to perform surgery.  If someone is very close by, they realize "this man is injured!" and go snatch him out of the doctor's hands and put him in bed.  Your doctor and the hauler end up playing hot-potato with a bleeding corpse.

...someone really needs to draw that.
