Interesting point about scrolls.

If you have no mages, how hard is it to find the scrolls you need?

If you're just keeping mages in a garrison and making scrolls with them, is it worth the micromanagement?

It's ok for the big scroll types - e.g your spare or level 20 priest can churn out farsight and portals for you, leaving more heals for your party mage. Similar for mages, you have a backup mage do the bigger spell types as scrolls. Plus, any class can use the scrolls. The micro is really annoying to do a stack of heal scrolls though.

Stacking for scrolls doesn't work - the game need big fixes for that, e.g. treat scrolls as a type of ammo like arrows, which stack by type of scroll. That would fix the inventory issues, plus it needs a bulk scribing option, e.g. able to scribe 1,5 or 10 at a time. Those changes would make scrolls awesome.

btw is it just me or did no-one get any start of day bonuses or spell refresh?

Energy bolts are guaranteed hits, if your party is not up to snuff in landing attacks.
This is incorrect.  My mage can't hit shit.

Well, I bought the 2 mages. They were cheap anyway (got them for 90 gold each). No big loss there.

But I noticed. Even at 100% auto cast chance for online+offline...my priest+mages never actually cast spells. Did I do it wrong? I put a lot of points into their magics (especially priest heals and mage's energy bolt). But fight after fight, not a single spell is cast.

With a weapon?  Flame/Ice/Poison can be resisted.

Did you click the checkbox by the spell on the screen?  You have to do the checkbox for autocasting, in case you want to autocast heal, but manually decide when to cast haste.

Yeah, I checked a few spells. But I just realized that there is actually a menu to manually cast spells in combat...looked in the help menu for spells... and! Surprise! there is a hidden menu to cast spells :P

Hey, I just started playing this game and I'm loving it, but I have a few questions:
1. (Roughly)How quickly do you get new turns?
2. What kingdom are the DF players united in?
3. What's the best way to get gold early-game?

1: 25 per hour, +100 daily (ish) if you vote (some are broken).  You can get up to 1,000 extra per day using +turn gear, though it may soon be nerfed to +250 per day.

2: We're not in a kingdom, so go on your own way until we can get one founded.

3: You don't.  Start of the game, you're worried about experience more than ANYTHING else.  Gold will come naturally when you're leveled up some.  Stick to the sewers until level 2-3 and you've got chain mail at least, then do "kill x monsters near town" quests and go from there.

well...it was odd, I logged in to find I had 1073 turns, and my spells hadn't refreshed for the day, so I went through a bunch of shops, found an indestructable halberd and an indestructable quarterstaff that has poison 5.

As for energy beam...it is an auto hit, but tends to do lowish damage, the highest that I've seen my mage hit for was 16 and that is with 43 int. Spells are checked against the opponent's resistance, not their defense. Energy beam has no resist attached to it, so it will never be resisted as far as I can tell. I did get level 10 recall on my main priest, with 50 con its about half of the time the spell gets recalled.

Yep, I've never once seen energy beam miss or be resisted.  The other damage spells never seem to miss, but get resisted way too often to be worth it, at least when I try to use them.

Max turns was raised to 2000.

Yippee, dev listens to players. Always a good sign. I think he capped the +turns equipment at 250 free turns/day as well. I have 300+ turns worth of that gear, I might be selling some equipment off, i'll make a list after I confirm the details.

===

I've decided raising CON at all seems like a waste of stat points. I have two lvl 20+ warriors, the 1st generation one I raised CON 2 / STR 1 each level, for a while, total CON = 45, 158 total HP, 71 Attack factor. The 2nd generation one, I left CON at 18 and only raised STR to see what happens. She has attack factor 107, and 142 HP. So 27 CON more means 16 HP more, but lose out on 35 attack points. Clearly, raising CON is a waste at all even on combat/tank role warriors. Just keep your starting 18 and put the rest into their main class stat.

CON is so not working to raise HP. I have characters with mid 30's CON with more HP than that 45 CON guy. It's almost like it's bugged out and not having the intended game effect.

That definitely seems bugged.

There is a large random deviation on the rolls. Sounds just like your comparing a lucky roll guy to an unlucky roll guy.  I have characters over 140 hp at lv19.

And what about none Warriors, that dont raise STR. They need CON to boost move factor. New guys wont have access to all your fancy move boosting items, fine if they are stuck in a garrison forever. But new player takes the advice and never raises CON at all on archers/casters with their main party will spend majority of their turns moving on the map.

End of day never happened again. Check "Party->History".
No spells, no tax reset, no land decay...
Thats twice in a week, kind of a kill joy when you save up your turns to plan a sessions then log on to find your spells all burnt out still

It looks like Red is still strong - he's holding on to his vast empire quite well! We definitely need a new kingdom (or two) to shake things up.
