You can apparently write spells you've memorized to the blank scrolls you find in shops.

InHat said it was lvl8 and I know my lvl7 mage can't scribe while my lvl9 priest can. I used to use the scrolls for the point hogging spells like Portal, Farsight, or Watcher(I loved these scrolls so much, each effect lasts you for days).

What does Watcher actually do? New parties seem to start with it for twenty days.

Thats what lets you do the "Check Odds" before battle. You can cast it with mages also according to the guide.

It guesses how you will fare against monsters (whether this is stat or level based is unknown) which I find awesome considering how often I find different configurations of the things.

3 Basilisks won't touch me but I have no chance against 8? I put it to the test and barely escaped. I also used Agi as a stat dump for most of my characters and my armor sucks so, yeah. It doesn't take spells into account so it is really most applicable when you slam "Fight!" or have never seen certain monsters before.

Stat, I think. I was working out how that worked a while back, and it takes current health into account. I started out with my party all injured to a reasonable extent and 'had a shot' against some group of monsters. Several heals later, it was up to 'very good'. I imagine it includes other things if it includes health.

Edit: Reelya, how automated is the map right now? Mostly idle curiosity spawned from noticing that Ashford is still marked as being NPC mayor-ed.

I'm The Dark Sickle in-game. Still level 2, though.

It's not possible to automate getting mayor information.

I was wondering more about the whole e-mail business, whether we should send you another if something changes in the town.

To the people having trouble with priest/mage survival, yea... that happens.  The first few levels, they die pretty quickly.  Once they level some and get decent armor, their survival and usefulness goes up.  Once they run out of spells for the day, you can always shelf em and switch to someone else.

And if you are dungeon diving, seriously consider putting Portal on a priest.  Or getting a Portal scroll.  You can use that as a dungeon escape.

I'm definitely going to do that.

Also, my priests stopped dying after I kitted them out with the best armour I could find and afford. I've probably crippled myself for the future somehow now, but eh.

Early priest training pays off. If you think it's hard training priests on rats, wait until your party is fighting wraiths and you decide you need to train a new priest. The result isn't pretty.

I managed to find a priest in the next town for my (no priest start) party today.

Think he must be the weakest priest in the game, Lv2 with only 4HP...  poor chap was half starved and unconscious on the street. The only others I found were much higher levels out of reach for some time, 10-40k cost. Didnt want to be stuck without one another day though so took him on.

Managed to get him up to Lv3 dragging him around the sewer loaded up with plate/steel - he is now a beefy 8hp after a good force feeding of rat corpses so in theory "should" be able to take one hit from a Wyvern/Centuar/Mino Ive been running into outside.

Well this is interesting, never even noticed those before. So, do I have to have 1 spell memorized per scroll I want to scribe or do I just need 1 spell memorized? I'm going to make myself a batch of Portal scrolls.
