War Cry is useless, it raises your accuracy, which at any meaningful level isn't worth much because you'll always hit.

Awareness could potentially be useful. Nothing like planning to loot one final chest before portalling out and then having that chest kill one of your party members.

I've got some points in medicine on my priests. It's not proved particularly useful.

Edit:
Re: warrior hitpoints, I've observed that my 33-con warrior has 85 hitpoints. My 38-con priest of the same level has 52.

Awareness is great for a true priest.  Rack of the Div, max your awareness, you do pretty well.

This is weird. My priests' spells don't seem to have refreshed overnight, since they don't have anywhere near the full complement but only one of my garrisons cast any spells, and it was a total of about fifteen.

Edit:

Laurence found a sling stones (x3)!
Laurence found a wooden shield!

Did he just rip the lid off the chest and call the nails sling stones?

Just a quick update on my progress: I'm at party level 13 and I've seized empty castles at [85,83], [96,95] and [89,63] . Since I haven't bothered with garrisoning yet these castles are free for the taking if anyone else wants them. Just be aware that they belonged to someone else before they belonged to me and even though they were abandoned I suppose said previous owner might want them back.

More question!

Do skills have a max level?

Mine neither, roll-over seems to be semi-bugged. I got no spells recharged and only half my items with +turns, earned the turns.

Look at party -> history.
No spells recharged this day.
No end of day email either, so something was clearly amiss
Town news not showing new day. Entry fees not reset. Although there are new quests it seems.
I sent a report to Mutant.

I'm not sure if it's good or bad it wasn't only me. I didn't get the e-mail either.

Town news is showing now Ive killed a few mobs in the area, but the usual prosperity/tax report on the dawn of the day is nowhere to be seen. So we are "in" the new day but the turnover didnt happened properly obviously.

Seriyu, skills max out at level 10.

I have the same problem - no spell refresh. Well, again, if it's everyone then it's no so horrible.

I also had only a few + turns items activate too.

It was a bit of a damper on my dungeon crawling.

Fortunately, I had an extra portal spell because I only hit one dungeon yesterday, but the lack of heals was a big problem.

Hence why I scribe a lot of scrolls whenever possible, I have 100+ heal scrolls now.

I've got some traction now, and am about to set up a garrison. How do they work exactly? Do they just tick up in XP, or do they sort of auto-fight things they come across?

Nvm, done it.

You can place a garrison at level 6.  They will stand there, and fight monsters and/or players that walk onto the tile.  At level 8 you can build structures, namely a tower/fort/castle, market provides gold, barracks provide exp, and seals of resistance/attack/defense raise those values for the garrisoned characters.  It's a long-term game, but you can leave decent characters on garrison and forget about them, then return to find them higher level.  Just scroll through your party list daily to see who's leveled up and assign their stat points.

I'd suggest making a build of character for permanent garrisons.  You end up with 24 skill points and a cap of 10 per skill, so you can max berserk, shield bash, and have 4 points left over, which I'd suggest putting around between metallurgy, fletching, medicine, and tactics, as these will help keep the garrison upright without you having to visit and refit their gear.  You might also make a character with maxed construction, con, and str to play a mule, who you can use to build things, carry bricks, and collect the garrison's loot.  Finding a level 1 warrior with max con/str isn't hard in the recruit offices, and you can give them rings of +con or +movement.
