I think he had been pulling G's, and going up and down to strafe ground targets. Not too much E, and the Zero probably came from on high. They were at about the same speed when I saw them, but close enough to be quite dangerous!

So only the A6M5c has fuel tank protection... I know the A6M5 series was supposed to buff the plane's armour up. Oh well :) Still, we came back alive, and that's all that really matters!

Okay that explains it.  :) Yeah M5a/b did have reinforced frames, a light armor seat(actually no worse than what the other air forces used), armor glass windshield and rubber protection to fuel tanks, same or similar system to the one used in Navy's 2-engine bombers after mid 1942. However the tanks themselves were still aluminum and the airframe wasn't too rugged compared to other fighters of the time... Rugged enough considering how light the Zero was, but it didnt handle battle damage well.

I'm trying to make a small video of one of our 6-plane sorties, but I'm restricted to using screenshots. What's your procedure for capturing video and all that? I don't want to buy fraps, for that price I might as well get some game!...

So - I've heard that some people here in Bay 12 might be interested in flying together!

How about we set up some weekly sorties? When's best for you to play, and where? Provide the following information:

- Possible playing times (in GMT and EST)
- Preferred server(s)
- Preferred side
- Preferred activity/ies (dogfight, level-bombing, torpedo-bombing, skip-bombing, etc)

Here's for me:

- From 8-9pm to midnight on most weekdays, EST. That's 1-2am to 5am GMT.
- I usually only fly full-real servers. My server of choice is Zekes vs Wildcats, Pacific Theatre. Spits vs 109's is its ETO counterpart, and is also a nice server. I'll gladly fly elsewhere if you guys prefer.
- Preferred side would definitely be either USN, RAF or IJN.
- Preferred activities would be.... well, pretty much anything really, from bombing to dogfights. I do love to fly me some formations :)

Hope to hear from you guys!

I'm in, of course.  ;)

My best times are Saturday evenings(after 19 o clock GMT) but should be able to find time on weeks too. Especially next Monday or Tuesday, which happens to be the independence day up here.

Pretty much anything and any side goes to me as long as there as many difficulty settings ticked as possible and the mission or map has more idea than just furballing at the deck, unless the idea is just to practice out things which never hurts. I usually prefer to not fly certain types, though, and like being a fighter jock.

If we have lots of newbies, its probably best to use the stock game(which rules out some servers).

And people, dont trick with IPs. Seriously. Get the HyperLobby: http://hyperfighter.sk if you have any questions ask on the forums, ask me or send a pager message to me in HL.

EDIT: me and my squad dont fly on Spits vs 109s or Zeke vs Wildcat. Gunrunner is an ass.

Yeah, we've had our run-ins too. I try to be particularly non-confrontational and avoid Spits, sticking to Zekes. Warbirds of Prey just happens to have the most populated full-real server whenever I'm on. What servers do you suggest?

I guess GMT/EST will make it difficult for anything outside weekends. I'm going to an american football game (gotta go at least once before leaving the US, right?) this particular saturday, but should be available in the evening.

Right, I'm only definatly free on the weekends, all day Saturday (7am-9pm GMT, 2am-4pm EST) and Sunday morning, which will only work for early risers in GMT and even earlier risers in EST.

I don't have any preferred servers, although I'd be happy to go with full realism (although I do like 3rd person view an my map... So nearly full difficulty is my best).
However, one other condition. No. Hyperlobby. It hates me. I can only use IPs from servers, and use XFire to find them.

As for sides, I don't mind. USN, IJN, RAF, whatever.

Activities. Dogfighting is always good, although a fighter vs bomber scenario would also be fun. With formation flying. So basically anything.

Hope that isn't too inconvenient.

I'm re-installing IL-2 1946 and dusting off my old Saitek X52 Pro after reading this thread. :D I haven't played in ages, so I'm probably awful... off to practice!

We can either go for 4.10.1 or 4.10.1 + UP3.0. I have both (and HSFX as well), so it's up to you. Let us know so server choices are more obvious!

It seems like most are GMT, and I just happen to be out at the worst time this particular Saturday :( You guys should go on ahead at whatever time is best for you. I think I'll only be available after 9pm GMT. I'll meet up with whoever's still around at that time.

I should have most of Sunday, but that doesn't appear to be as popular. Heck, I like the game, but I'm not waking up at 5am to play it ;)

Also, a virtual air-show is currently showing, but it's mostly modern stuff :( There's ONE Ki-23 in there ;)

21 o clock GMT is 23 here and I'll be online for at least a couple of more hours...

Spaghetti7: whats the issue with the HL? Ask here or on HL forums... It cant be anything Jiri or I couldnt fix in an hour.  ;)

EDIT: I'm at version 4.10.1 myself. Have had no need for mods and I dont like some of the stuff that comes with HSFX and UP...

You should decide on a server and time then :) I'll try to be there when I can!

It's been a while since I played a flight sim... man, I am rusty. I can barely dogfight a normal AI without stalling.
